Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Emergency Officer - HQ

 Background:

The Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Emergency Officer will be part of SRCS-HQ, Health department. The MHPSS Emergency officer will spend 80% of the time delivering technical support in-person and remotely to MHPSS staff and volunteers in emergency response. MHPSS Emergency officer will work under MHPSS Coordinator supervision, in collaboration with Health Department sectors and DM and Emergency Department. This is a primarily field facing position with the central responsibility focused on the quality of the MHPSS interventions in emergency response, in collaboration with IFRC and other partners. The remaining 20% of the time is spent on coordination, M&E, reporting and proposal writing.

  • Plan and lead MHPSS activities within the SRCS Floods and Emergency response interventions, under supervision of the MHPSS National Coordinator and MHPSS Technical Officer support.
  • Ensure appropriate implementation of the MHPSS Emergency response activities, addressing the challenges, proposing solutions and improvements to the SRCS intervention based on the evolving needs
  • Ensure mainstreaming of MHPSS in overall SRCS emergency response
  • Ensure the quality and impact of MHPSS services according to RC/RC standards, by using the relevant tools provided by the SRCS HQ
  • Support the staff and volunteers in mapping of service providers and establishing the referral system

Technical support, capacity of MHPSS staff to ensure ongoing program quality and innovation

  • Provide technical support and on job training to MHPSS staff and volunteers at branch level
  • Contribute in developing, strengthen and conducting MHPSS tools/trainings
  • Under supervision of MHPSS National Coordinator and MHPSS Technical officer cooperation , carry out regular meetings and  supervision with MHPSS staff to ensure that activities are relevant and are in line with RC/RC quality standards
  • Verbal and written translation of MHPSS tools when necessary
M&E and Reporting
  • Participate in regular monitoring of MHPSS emergency activities
  • Based on the on-going monitoring of the activities, ensure lessons learned and success stories from the emergency response
  • Produce timely progress reports, including both quantitative and qualitative information(Weekly update, Monthly, Quarterly report), on MHPSS activities
  • Participate in assessments/service mapping and relevant surveys
Coordination and representation
  • Coordinate with other SRCS departments to ensure smooth implementation of the MHPSS emergency activities
  • When requested and needed, attend MHPSS emergency coordination meetings, liaise with other MHPSS actors, and represent SRCS- MHPSS sector as required
  • Participate in Emergency response internal meetings within the Health Department, and other relevant meetings with the PNSs and IFRC
  • Build and maintain regular contact with other NGOs/partners/ institutions and others at the field level, under supervision of the MHPSS coordinator
  • Attend cluster and working group meetings when requested by the National MHPSS Coordinator

  • Any other related tasks as assigned by the Health Director
 

 


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Personal qualifications

Education

Professional qualification as a psychologist, with experience and commitment to community based psychosocial support

Experience and Knowledge

 

  • More than 5 years’ experience of working in the humanitarian or related field, with more than 3 years’ experience in the specific area of PSS and protection.
  • Strong facilitation skills and knowledge about adult learning methodologies
  • Material development skills (training material, manuals)
  • Advocacy skills (based on strong understanding of CBPSS)
  • Experience of report-writing, planning and managing a budget
  • Red Cross/Red Crescent Experience (preferable)
  • Self-supporting in computers (Windows, spreadsheets, word processing)

Languages

 

  • Fluency in English-spoken and written
  • Fluency in Arabic -spoken and written
