Purposes:

The department of Bioinformatics and Biostatistics at the National University Biomedical Research Institute is seeking an Assistant System Administrator to work closely with a team of bioinformatics researchers and molecular biologists in the field of pathogen genomics. The person will assist in data management and will provide support in testing applied software resources in multiple computing platforms and programming languages. A new Genomics unit is under preparation at the Department, therefore good knowledge records in NGS data analyses and statistics would be preferable.

Job Description

• Monitoring hardware and software performance at all times and carrying out validation, documentation, backup and recovery functions.
• Making sure all desktop applications, workstations, and related equipment problems are resolved in a timely manner with limited disruptions
• Work with the researchers in data processing, organization, management and in building project specific bioinformatics workflows, resources and software.
• Install, configure and maintain various types of bioinformatics software/ data sources in multiple programming languages/ platforms for research support.

• Bachelor/Master degree in bioinformatics, Computer Science, Biology or related fields.
• Proven track record in scripting languages such as Bash and Python.
• Familiar with software testing best practices.
• Experience with Linux/Unix based systems.
• Familiarity with large-scale data analysis and utilization of high-performance computing systems
• Ability to understand biological data and statistical analysis methods is preferable.
• Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues on server and other related devices.
• Team oriented and attention to details.
• Excellent communication skills in English and Arabic.
