Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) Supervisor

 Background:

The purpose of this position is to implement Concern’s Food Security and Livelihoods activities in ( Al Fula , Abu zabad , Al dibab,  Kegera , Balela) Localities, West Kordofan state, according to the Detailed Implementation Plans (DIPs). The position holder will coordinate and liaise with other Concern’s sector supervisors in Health and Nutrition and WASH for integrated implementation of activities. 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Programme Implementation:

  • Prepare monthly work plan of activities to be implemented and submit to the FSL Officer for approval;
  • Undertake community mobilization and awareness raising about Concern’s FSL activities;
  • Provide correct information to the communities about the project, including their roles and entitlements;
  • Implement beneficiaries’ Complaints and Response Mechanism (CRM) as per Concern’s procedures;
  • Register all the beneficiaries who receive support from Concern’s FSL activities using the format developed by Area Manager;
  • Carry out training of beneficiaries, distribute of project inputs, make field visits, and supervise and support community-based extension workers;
  • Ensure the beneficiaries sign for any support given such as seeds, tools, kits, etc. using the format developed by Area Manager;
  • Incur only expenditures which are budgeted, authorized and in according with Concern’s compliance procedures;
  • Implement activities according to Concern’s technical quality standards (manuals and guidelines) and the relevant ministries’ technical guidelines;
  • Closely follow-up with the beneficiaries to ensure that actions agreed with them are implemented, including day-to-day monitoring of activities;
  • Report to the FSL Officer and the Area manager of challenges in the field to enable quick resolution;
  • Plan and implement activities together with the local staff of technical Ministries (Ministry of Agriculture, Animals Resources), local leaders and beneficiaries as may be necessary;
  • Take part in data collection using the Digital Data Gathering (DDG) system and other tools as per requested;
  • Prepare and submit regular activity reports as may be required by Area Manager/FSL Officer;
  • Roll out training and mentor community groups such as Voluntary Savings and Loaning (VSL), Income Generating groups and vegetable grower groups based on the training they receive;
  • Work closely with other sectors to ensure implementation of activities is done in coordination with WASH, Health and Nutrition supervisors with crosscutting themes and integration;
  • Take care and keep good custody of Concern’s equipment/assets that are issued for implementation of activities;

 

Capacity Building:

  • Assist in the preparation and conduct of training, follow up and mentoring of beneficiaries, community groups and community-based extension workers;

Others:

  • Be aware of, understand and comply with all of Concern’s policies and procedures (Code of Conduct and Associated policies, finance, logistics, HR, security management etc.).
  • Contribute to ongoing security management and planning as necessary.
  • Actively participate in any emergency response if called upon to do so (within the existing programme area or in a new one).
  • Undertake other related duties as may reasonably be assigned by the Area Manager/FSL Officer. 

Emergency response

Concern is committed to responding to emergencies efficiently and effectively in order to help affected people meet their basic needs, alleviate suffering and maintain their dignity. To this end, when emergencies strike and Sudan Programme is to respond, all staff are required to actively participate in the response, regardless of location and contribute to the efforts aimed at achieving the humanitarian objective of the organization.


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Essential

  • At least Diploma in Agriculture, Agronomy, Animal Sciences, Agri-business or related discipline;
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in NGO setting in direct field role as frontline extension officer;
  • Good knowledge of agriculture and rural livelihood activities; 
  • Experience in different extension approaches and methods;
  • Strong community mobilisation and facilitation skills;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Knowledge of and experience in working in West Kordofan.

 

Desirable

  • Experience in using Digital Data Gathering tools
  • Experience in working with local community leaders.
