 Background:

Action Against Hunger (AAH), a country office managed by Accion Contre el Hambe (ACF Spain headquarters), has been working in Sudan since late 2018, with operational bases in White Nile, South Kordofan and Central Darfur. Action Contre la Faim (ACF France) has previously worked in Sudan during the Darfur conflict. Our core expertise is in nutrition centered and / or nutrition sensitive integrated multi sectoral interventions, sectors including WASH, Food Security & Livelihoods and starting from 2021, including Mental Health Care Practices Gender & Protection. Whereas Gender and Protection are mainstreamed throughout all our current interventions and will continue to be, AAH would like to have a separate department to be able to focus on and address gaps in mental health care practices gender and protection in all our current areas of intervention and contribute to broader analysis on these very pertinent issues for humanitarian community in Sudan. Position is based in Khartoum with frequent travel to White Nile, Central Darfur and South Kordofan and other states where AAH is conducting assessments and / or emergency interventions. 

 

Goal :

To develop the mental health and care practices strategy for the mission in coordination with the nutrition and health sector, as well as support its programmatic implementation and monitoring, as well as to help mainstream protection and gender into all programs, especially GBV

 Duties and responsibilities:

Mission 1: Manage implementation of MHCP GP activities of all interventions

  • Ensure regular field supervision and on the job visits when possible to the project areas;
  • Provide technical support to the field teams (AAH and local partners) and technical updates when appropriate and possible;
  • Monitor the budget and targets achieved with reference to integrated project proposals;
  • Adapt the project’s objectives/results/activities/methodology based on appropriately collected and analysed data;
  • Together with other technical departments, analyse and control the technical performance and relevance of MHCP mainstreamed, and integrated projects

 

Mission 2: Expand on the current integrated MHCP strategy, positioning and external coordination according to ACF’s country strategy and  the government strategy

  • Ensure good coordination and representation towards stakeholders and partners, and identify opportunities to attend and represent ACF in coordination meeting;
  • Identification of training needs and capacity building of team members on psychological first aid and MHPSS cross-cutting integration in nutrition-security programming 
  • Attend technical workshops and technical working group and GBV sub cluster meetings related to the programs
  • Identify needs relative to MHCP in Sudan, coordinate needs assessments on MHPSS and child and maternal care practices and/or collect information on the humanitarian situation and through committee based decision making, identify ways of feeding needs assessments into quality programmes in real time;
  • Support the mainstreaming of GBV and gender strategy across all departments
  • Support the mainstreaming of protection across all departments
  • Lending technical support to advocacy for GBV and protection issues at cluster level
  • Contribute to integrated proposal writing in collaboration with other departments including all supporting documentation where appropriate e.g. supporting Gender Analysis.

 

Mission 3: To integrate MEAL department within MHCP interventions

  • Ensures that the technical protocols, manuals, guidelines and forms used in the field are in line with ACF and international (IASC, Sphere) validated technical tools and guidelines and when available and possible, with national guidelines;
  • Ensure these protocols are in place on the ground and well understood by national and partner teams through documented participatory trainings
  • Supports and addressed any challenges to overall monitoring (operational & financial, qualitative & quantitative) of the projects with a particular focus on the deadlines, objectives and indicators;
  • Support integrated designs, in close coordination with technical Departments (FSL, WaSH and Nutrition & Health)
  • Evaluate MHCP teams skills and needs in terms of training, propose and organize trainings;
  • Support the timely production of monthly and technical reports from the field; provide feedback when required;
  • Follow up the activities, analyse and evaluate the programs; conduct field visits as required;
  • Ensure data confidentiality, ownership of project beneficiaries and ACF

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Qualification and previous experience:

  • Psychologist, or person with relevant experience in the field of mental health and psychosocial support, with at least four years of experience is requested; 
  • At least 4 years proven experience working in the area of gender equality and gender analysis in Sudan context.
  • A solid experience in addressing gender-based violence in the community level along with national level platforms is a must for the role. 
  • Applicant must have a broad experience of managing psychosocial programs in the field in coordination and, preferably, integrated with other technical departments. Field experience is compulsory.
  • Additional technical knowledge or experience related to CMAM, infant and young child feeding and health, would be given preference
  • Capacity and commitment to capitalisation and capacity building.
  • Proven capacity to work in a complicated security environment.
  • Excellent diplomatic, communication, team management and organisational skills are required. 
  • Have the ability to shift priorities and multitask. 
  • Fluent in Arabic and English.

Salary for this position is 1500 USD per month (maximum) subject to social insurance and income tax
