Background:
The Job Holder for this position will be responsible for developing, implementing and strategically leading a National Faith Engagement Strategy with different faith groups across WV Operational areas.
This position will work cross-departmentally to build relationships, increase engagement with Faith leaders, and equip staff and Partners relevant skills in Faith and Development to ensure the National Office achieves the strategic objectives in partnership with Faith (FBOs/CBOs) and peacebuilding actors, and integration of faith and community development in WVS Programming. The Candidate will also be responsible for supporting Response interventions including designing appropriate initiatives to support Peace Building programs.
She/he will provide technical support and advise the national office senior leadership on faith and development towards holistic child wellbeing of the most vulnerable children
Duties and responsibilities:
Management of Faith and Development mainstreaming and implementation
Provide technical support for Faith and Development projects (Grants and PNS) through timely and quality Financial Management, Implementation, DME, and Impact reporting.
Provide leadership for the integration of Faith & Development (F&D) and peace building into WVS Programming.
Manage the mainstreaming of F&D Core Project Models/ Approaches (Celebrating Families, Channels of hope, Empowered Worldview, and Spiritual Nurture for Children (SNC)) and peace building initiatives/activities into all programs and projects and ensure that these initiatives are community-driven for increased ownership and sustainability.
Capacity building for Integration of Peace and Conflict Sensitivity in Programming and Empowering Children as Peacebuilders. Also, ensure that frontline staff have adequate capacity to apply DO NO HARM principles while implementing WVS programs.
Build community capacity on healing, Peace Building and Reconciliation in relation to the running of healing workshops for sustainable peace
Building Partnerships
Manage the national office engagement with Faith Organizations ensuring the pursuit and development of meaningful and formal partnerships with churches, and Mosques leadership and other community stakeholders that will compliment WVS F&D activities through WV partnering guidelines
Ensure potential and strategic formal partnerships with the Ministry of Religious Affairs for contribution to child wellbeing and outcomes.
Direct and cultivate strategic engagement with UN agencies, NGO’s, research institutes and other community stakeholders that will compliment WV Sudan peace building activities.
Engage and liaise with Muslims and Church umbrellas to promote peace and spiritual nurture for children to achieve Child Wellbeing in a holistic manner.
Engage and liaise with National Level Actors and Institutions on Peace and Reconciliation
Resource Acquisition and Management:
Update F&D and peace building fact sheets, capacity statements, and talking points for donor engagement
Work with GAM team in developing Peace Building, F&D & Core Project Models/Approaches (Celebrating Families Curriculum, Channels of Hope, and Empowered Worldview) related concept papers/proposals writing
To provided technical advice, working closely with GAM Director, in developing competitive proposals for other sectors aiming at integrating F&D project models in FSL, WASH, CP, H&N, Climate Change adaptation, Environment, and economic empowerment
Ensure that projects are designed with F&D package aimed at integration F&D interventions in WVS ministry practices and programming including project models and campaigns
Monitoring and Reporting:
Ensure monitoring tools are in place to track the implementation progress of F&D Interventions and peace-building activities/initiatives.
Prepare and submit timely and quality monthly, quarterly and annual reports on F&D and Peace Building, activities in line with World Vision and/or donor formats.
Regular documentation of F&D and peacebuilding promising practices and ensure their duplication in other area of Operations
In collaboration with DME unit, coordinate and ensure timely and quality submission and uploading in horizon semi Annual and Annual reports of the F&D Grants and PNS
Consolidate monthly, quarterly and annual F&D divisional reports
Working closely with the Operations Department and Finance to ensure donor report for F&D projects are prepared timely and with expected standards quality for submission for donor
Ensure that F&D lesson learnt through monitoring and evaluation are captured, capitalized and incorporated into future proposal designs
Support keeping accurate and up-to-date records of F&D and peace building protocols, policies, lessons, and good practices, and facilitate their circulation and use within the National Office, across the partnership, and with partners.
Capacity Building
Provide technical support to WVS staff in relevant F&D Project models and a social empowerment approach known as Empowered Worldview (EWV) as required
Build capacity of WV staff on F&D project models for integration into their programs.
Ensure WV staff and community attendance at various F&D workshops and events when and where possible
Strengthen WV Partners and community capacity on WV F&D Core Project Models
Identify WV Sudan staff and partners training needs in F&D Interventions
Provide F&D orientation for staff on WVI Identity upon joining the ministry
People Management
Motivate and technically lead the staff, partners, and volunteers who are directly involved in Faith and Development & Peace Building Project implementation to achieve the objectives of the project.
Ensure that WVS staff comply with WV Mission, Vision, policies and procedures, especially People and Culture Policy other guidelines that are specific to the humanitarian context.
Provide continuous guidance to Faith and Development project staff through coaching and mentoring
Manage the performance of project staff and assisting them to perform better
Identify training needs of project staff and ensure development plans are developed and implemented
Perform any other duty as may be assigned by supervisor or designee from time to time
Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
At least five (5) years’ of relevant experience and two years in leadership position working in International Development Organizations, s
5 years of relevant experience (Psychosocial work, peacebuilding, and reconciliation, / Spiritual Formation).
Proven ability to conceptualize, innovate, plan and manage programs as well as transfer knowledge and skills.
Must have proven analytical, problem solving skills and ability to work with minimum supervision.
Proven ability to cultivate long term partnerships with faith community
People management skills, with the ability to lead, inspire, train, and mentor team members, and to achieve the highest possible results through staff.
A good understanding of the Faith and Peacebuilding context in Sudan.
Excellent communication and networking skills, which inspire confidence with partners and Faith Communities
Ability and passion to pursue the transformation of staff, partners, and communities that exemplifies a non-discriminatory understanding
Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Development, Theology with or other Development-related fields from a recognized institution.
Postgraduate education/studies in Development, Theology with an emphasis on missions and development or related field will be an added advantage
Should demonstrate ability to work in multicultural, multidenominational and multi-faith environments
Must have good interpersonal and communication skills willing to market Faith and Development programs to donors, collaborating stakeholders and WV marketers
Must be well respected in society ready to work in WV values environment with high professionalism
Good knowledge and commitment to WV’s ethos, philosophy of work, and CORE documents.
Senior leadership role in a Faith Based Institutions, church and/or para church organization strongly desire
Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required
Able to work under pressure.
Work hours are often in excess of 12 hours per day, and up to 7 days per week, during difficult periods of the response.
Responses are often mounted in insecure or natural disaster-prone contexts, which may disrupt normal work patterns and generate staff safety issues.
Work and housing environments may at times be well below normal standards in terms of facilities, equipment, food availability and hygiene.
Must be in good physical health due to medium to high-risk operating environment
Effective in written and verbal communication in English
