Background: Emergency Coordinator
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), one of the world’s leading NGOs, with a focus on responding to displacement, have been registered in Sudan since 2004, delivering life-saving programming in protection, emergency response, shelter, food security and livelihoods, disaster risk reduction, camp management, and humanitarian mine action. DRC has implemented projects in Central Darfur, South Kordofan, Gedaref, Port Sudan, and White Nile. Sudan hosts one of the largest displaced populations in Africa, with over 3.7 million internally displaced people and over 1.1 million refugees from South Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Central African Republic, Chad, Yemen and Syria. Against a background of political crisis, Sudan faces economic and social turmoil, with sharp increases in food and energy costs, further exacerbated by disease outbreaks and ongoing conflict.
POSITION PROFILE The Emergency Coordinator will be responsible for the overall coordination of the emergency response efforts in Sudan. This includes business development, providing operational guidance and support, offering technical oversight, and with a particular focus on ensuring effective representation and coordination with local partners, Mutual Aid Groups (MAGs), local responders, UN Agencies, and local authorities. The role encompasses the oversight of project cycle management processes, activity monitoring, navigating access issues, and coordination for various response plans, including the famine response plan, IDP's response plan, and floods response plan. The Emergency Coordinator will work closely with Area Managers and field Programme Managers to develop area-level emergency response and preparedness plans. Additionally, the role includes supporting and leading assessment discussions with stakeholders, such as conducting rapid needs assessments, documenting lessons learned from emergency response projects, and supporting DRC's cross-border emergency programming. Sectors’ Responsibilities: The Emergency Coordinator will provide support in designing and overseeing the implementation of multi-sector, life-saving interventions, with direct responsibility of overseeing MAG and managing crisis modifier components. This included covering all staged of project cycle management, especially initial assessments and monitoring and evaluation, as well as emergency preparedness activities. Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required: Experience and technical competencies:
Advanced degree in Humanitarian Affairs, International Development, or a related field. LANGUAGES Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Arabic is an asset. ALL EMPLOYEES ARE EXPECTED TO DEMONSTRATE DRC FIVE CORE COMPETENCIES
