 Background:

Supporting the Water, Hygiene and Sanitation (Watsan) Manager in the implementation and supervision of Watsan activities, including tools and materials employed according to MSF standards and protocols, in order to improve health and living conditions of the target population


As the WATSAN Supervisor for MSF Spain’s emergency operations in Khartoum State, you will support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of water, hygiene, and sanitation activities that directly impact the health and dignity of the communities we support. Working closely with the WATSAN Manager.
Your role is essential to ensuring MSF’s WASH interventions are technically sound, timely, and effectively support our medical and emergency responses.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily WASH activities in health facilities and communities, including water supply, waste management, vector control, and decontamination procedures.
  • Oversee and guide the work of hygiene promoters, chlorinators, and plumbers, ensuring safety, quality, and adherence to MSF protocols.
  • Monitor infrastructure and water systems to ensure consistent access to safe water in treatment centers and supported facilities.
  • Coordinate stock and materials management for WASH supplies, including orders, consumption tracking, and emergency preparedness.
  • Support infection prevention and control (IPC) through proper waste disposal, cleaning routines, and disinfection measures in all intervention sites.
  • Contribute to outbreak response and rapid assessments by collecting data, analyzing WASH needs, and coordinating with logistics and medical teams. 
  • Assist with planning, training, and HR tasks for the WASH team, ensuring a safe and supportive work environment for all staff under your supervision.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

– Minimum Essential Requirements (Must-Have):


➢Diploma in Water and Sanitation, Environmental Engineering, or a related technical field.

➢At least 2 years of experience supervising WASH or technical infrastructure activities.

➢Experience leading teams of hygiene promoters, chlorinators, or technical staff.

➢Fluent in Arabic and English (spoken and written).

➢Computer literacy – proficient in Word and Excel.

➢Willingness and ability to work in emergency contexts and high-pressure environments.

 

- Desirable (Strong Assets)

 

➢Previous experience working with MSF or other medical-humanitarian organizations.

➢Experience in outbreak response (e.g., cholera, hepatitis) or emergency WASH programs.

➢Familiarity with Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) in health facilities.

➢Ability to perform water quality monitoring and analysis.

➢Experience coordinating with medical/logistics teams and local authorities.
