 Background:

The Sudan Transition Program – South (STP-S) seeks to strengthen conditions that support a peaceful and prosperous Sudan through increasing engagement of civil society actors, improving access to timely, accurate information, and encouraging citizens to model democratic behaviors. STP-S will be headquartered in Khartoum and will further maintain two regional offices in the South Kordofan and Blue Nile States.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

The Communications Officer is responsible for drafting and ensuring timely submission of program communications and reporting requirements, such as weekly reports, project progress reports, success stories, and social media messaging. The Communications Officer will organize and compile information from the different contributors, catalogue project photos from regional offices, cover any external requests for interview, and support all other external communications as requested. The Communications Officer will actively seek out opportunities to amplify project successes externally both within the international and donor community, as well as nationally where appropriate, in close coordination with USAID. The Communications Officer is expected to coordinate closely with the senior management and program teams to ensure high-quality reporting on program objectives and ensure that STP-S story is being told and amplified through multiple outlets in a way that reflects positively on the work accomplished. This individual will be expected to travel to the field to gather information and to build the reporting skills of technical staff in the regional offices. The Communications Officer is also expected to provide communications support to STP-S stakeholders and beneficiaries when needed, to better help grantees and other beneficiaries share their story. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collect input from the programs and operations teams to draft program progress reports, including weekly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Develop and implement a social media strategy and guidelines for the STP-S program.
  • Identify topics for and draft regular success stories for distribution to USAID, the international community, social media, and national audiences as relevant and required.
  • Prepare ad-hoc reports as requested. These may include but are not limited to thematic reports, operational reports, political and media analysis, etc. 
  • Monitor daily online media and newspapers for news relevant to the program or coverage of program’s activities, scanning, cataloguing, and saving relevant articles. Where applicable, amplify those stories through various channels (mission communications, social media, etc.)
  • Provide training and ongoing guidance to staff for drafting program reports and success stories to improve the way that STP-S shares its story with wider audiences.
  • Finalize reports produced by STTAs consultants and program staff as needed.
  • Conduct outreach and program promotional tasks, including documentation and videos/photos of program events as assigned. 
  • Work with the DT Global Communications Team to develop standard outreach templates to codify the presentation of program communications materials and develop a social media or reporting “brand”.
  • Develop and maintain a program timeline that captures key events, program highlights and administrative milestones.
  • Other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

 


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Education and certifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, or similar field - Master’s degree preferred
  • Background in graphic design and multi-media systems, a plus

 

 

Key Position Competencies and Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in reporting/communications and other relevant roles
  • Excellent time and people management, verbal and written communication, and organization skills are essential
  • Extremely accurate attention to detail and high standards of written English 
  • Experience in managing and contributing to social media platforms, external communications, and public relations related issues preferred 
  • Demonstrated copywriting, copy-editing, and proof-reading skills 
  • Previous experience working on USAID projects or in international development strongly preferred
  • Experience in data visualization preferred
  • Experience developing relationships both internally and externally
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of delivering a broad range of communications tools, specifically content and design for websites, developing case studies, brand identity, social media, briefings, press releases 
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office and online management systems 
  • Be proactive, have strong prioritization skills, and ability to work cross-culturally 
  • Have a basic understanding of local and national context. Nuanced subject matter knowledge and analysis preferred. 
  • Written and Oral fluency in English and different Sudanese languages required
  • Position open to Sudanese nationals only.
