 Background:

Sayara International is a social enterprise combining rigorous research and communication to create positive change in fragile and conflict-affected societies.  Sayara provides complex monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning (MERL) and social and behavior change communication (SBCC) in the most challenging environments. We work on countering disinformation, measuring social cohesion, and assessing education, migration, inclusive governance, climate change, and health.      

  

Sayara opened a branch office in Sudan in 2019 and obtained a certificate of incorporation from the Sudanese Ministry of Justice in January 2020. Since its incorporation, Sayara’s Sudan team has become a go-to provider of complex MERL services, as well as designing and implementing communication strategies to support social stability and change management.    

  

Through a period of major political flux, our team has continued to help our clients deliver tangible benefits to the communities they serve in Sudan. Our clients include UNICEF, Itad, Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), International Organization for Migration (IOM), the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), DT Global, USAID, and the U.S. Department of State’s Global Engagement Center.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Join general training sessions (online/virtual or in-person) as required for research skills, research ethics, preventing and handling safeguarding violations, etc.   
  • Attend training for specific research activities as needed – reviewing tools (such as questionnaires and interview guides), the context of surveys, and data collection time frames and processes.  
  • Allocate a team of local enumerators to conduct surveys with respondents.  
  • Review and ensure the quality of the data collected in the field.  
  • Ensure that the number of beneficiaries surveyed is correctly captured and reported to Sayara.  
  • Report certain situations that may arise directly to the program associate, such as safeguarding violations.
  • Respect the confidentiality of the information shared by respondents and maintain all other principles of research ethics.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Previous experience in quantitative data collection specifically surveys using ODK, Kobo Collect.   
  • Previous experience in qualitative data collection (KIIs, FGDs and IDIs).   
  • Ability to act as a Team Leader for the field data collectors.   
  • Wide network of male and female enumerators/data collectors in the specified state.   
  • Able and willing to conduct research directly as needed, especially with sensitive qualitative data.   
  • Experience with Quality Assurance (QA) for collected data.   
  • High level of attention to detail.   
  • High level of punctuality, and very organized.   
  • Willingness to work in the field.   
  • Respect for individuals from all nationalities, ethnic groups, religions and minority populations, and a high level of cultural sensitivity.   
  • Familiarity with the humanitarian field is desirable.   
  • Respect for the importance of confidentiality.   
  • Ability to mobilize people.
