SIHA

The Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA) is a coalition of civil society organizations from Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia and Somaliland. SIHA was founded in 1995 by a collection of women\'s groups with the view of strengthening the capacities of women organizations in the Horn of Africa countries. SIHA advocates for social change and gender equality for men and women in the Horn region and works specifically on: gender equality, women rights activism, women economic empowerment, eliminating violence against women and girls, promoting human rights, peace building and conflict transformation, enhancing women’s leadership and political participation and the production and dissemination of knowledge.  Background:

The focal points will be responsible for all logistical, planning, and implementation of project activities in their particular region.  They will be expected to map out women’s rights organizations, women’s rights activists, and other women-led groups and associations, or CSOs with a focus on women’s issues in each state of their designated region.  They will then hold meetings in each state to orient women’s groups on the project and to work with women to select key representatives to stand for them in regional or national level meetings. The focal points will be responsible, with support from SIHA Sudan office in North Sudan    , with organizing all logistics, planning meetings, and supporting the GENs in their meeting minutes, report writing, and planning of events and advocacy work. 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

The consultant will be responsible for the following tasks:

Involved in SGVB unit.

  1. Using SIHA's tools, document SGBV cases and provide an informative report about the women's situation in North Sudan . 
  2.  Maintain regular contact and relationships with different service providers. 
  3.  Provide the required documents for emergency grants for the survivors. 
  4.  Follow up with all sub-grantees and provide a follow-up report. 
  5. Supports the implementation of any activities carried out by the Gender Equality or Peace Collective groups.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  1. University-level education in human rights, women’s rights, project management, development / humanitarian studies, gender studies, law, or a related field; 
  2. Experience working in the human rights / non-governmental organization sector, with ability to provide relevant references;
  3. Expressed interested in gender and women’s rights / empowerment and improving conditions for women and girls in the Horn of Africa;
  4. Hard-worker, with ability to put in extra hours during peak periods of activity;
  5. Proven knowledge of local-level political / social / cultural dynamics;
  6. Proven knowledge of local-level stakeholders, persons of influence, and the ability to liaise with these actors in reference to SIHA work in the region;
  7. Ability to travel regionally as required.
  8. Punctual, attentive, and enthusiastic;
