Telecom Engineer

 Background:

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), an impartial, neutral and independent organization striving to protect and assist the victims of war and internal violence, has been working in Sudan since 1978. The ICRC is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to fill the position of Telecom Engineer in Khartoum.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage a good level of radio telecom (HF/VHF), VSat/Satcom, ICT Electricity/backup system, voice/VoIP services, and Unified Communication system in Sudan. 
  • Ensure an excellent level of HF/VHF, VoIP, Voice, VSat, Satellite phone, server/radio room electricity, and power backup setup in each site for stability, reliability, and availability.
  • Assist and Work with ICT Managers in AoR to maintain a minimum level of Telecom Support and Services.
  • Collaborate with ICT Manager in AoR to submit the periodical technical plan and manage technical visits for each structure in AoR.
  • Work with ICT Specialist, ICT Workplace, and other ICT Engineers on technical projects and implementation.
  • Visit each structure in AoR to review and plan possible adaptions.
  • Generates and submits weekly technical situation reports.
  • Attend technical meetings, coordination, and implementation of projects.
  • Assist ICRC institutional and country implementation projects in AoR.
  • Attend technical discussions, progress/situation review, and biweekly ICT Technical Coordination
  • Build and maintain good relationships with external Telecom Companies, Suppliers, and Service providers.
  • Manage the minimum level of Telecom and Electricity Material stock for AoR and periodic ICT hardware renewal according to hardware lifecycle and problem mitigations.
  • Report to ICT Manager in Khartoum. 

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • The candidate must hold a university degree in telecommunications, electronics, or related technical background.
  • Experience at five to seven years minimum of troubleshooting experience in the area of ICT Service catalog (e.g., Workplace services, telecommunications, IT, Helpdesk, and related fields).
  • Currently works or had previous experience working as Telecom Engineer or position responsible for a region-wide Telecom technical or system operation.
  • Excellent Telecom Knowledge and good team player.
  • Excellent in IT Knowledge is an asset.
  • An excellent command of English, depending on work location; other languages as an asset.
  • An excellent communication skill includes feedback giving/receiving and reporting.
  • An excellent analytical skill, troubleshooting, and provide a solution.
  • Good level in competencies: Leadership, Accountability, People Management, Teamwork & Collaboration, Representing ICRC (external relation) and Beneficiary & Client focus (people-centric).
  • Proficient in Component integration, functional Support, Problem Management (ICT), and Information Security Management.
