Flying Electrician

 Background:

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), an impartial, neutral and independent organisation striving to protect and assist the victims of war and internal violence, has been working in Sudan since 1978. The ICRC is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to fill the position of Flying Electrician in Khartoum.

 

Purpose:

The ICRC Electricity Safety Program (ESAP) envisions the rehabilitation of electrical installations in all ICRC premises worldwide to meet ICRC electrical safety requirements. The flying ESAP Electrician oversees the installation and wiring of all electrical works including rehabilitation, new installations, safety checks, operation and maintenance.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Autonomously performs and conducts preventive maintenance according to the ESAP preventive maintenance protocol and schedule in all ICRC sites in Sudan on all wiring work for switch boards, distribution systems in all premises in accordance with the plans/instructions received and tests their operations and conformity.
  • Performs monitoring of electrical work in coordination with ESAP managers.
  • Performs simple administrative tasks on computer.
  • At all stages, ensures compliance with project documents, ICRC standards, ESAP technical framework and wiring regulations (IEC standards).
  • Autonomously and responsibly manages the tools entrusted to as well as the materials and equipment used in the execution of the work.
  • Conducts the inventory of materials and follow up on deliveries.
  • Plans day to day works on ESAP sites with instructions from the ESAP manager.
  • Supervise daily workers who do assistance jobs to the project.
  • Attends to emergencies when called upon.
  • Promote internally good practices related to electrical safety.
  • Is aware of the delegation’s objectives and has a good knowledge of the Movement and other contacts relevant to the position
  • Collects and shares information to improve the ICRC’s understanding of the environment, trends and responses
  • Represents the ICRC in an appropriate way during activities, in meetings and in the field, and avoids any activity that may reflect negatively on the ICRC’s image.
  • Takes responsibility for their own professional learning and development

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Technical vocational training in electrical installation, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3–4 years' professional experience (post-training) in electrical installation or related field.
  • Good knowledge of local electrical wiring regulations and best practices in electrical installations.
  • Good understanding of official Electrical standards and any other related guidelines
  • Basic knowledge electrical systems, construction/building or related field.
  • Capacity to read, understand and interpret electrical drawing and schematic diagrams.
  • Experience in managing 1–3 technical support staff in an electrical work site. 
  • Basic command spoken and written English and Arabic
  • Readiness to spend 50-75% of the time out of the assignment base
  • Driving license, succeeded in ICRC driving test
