Psychosocial Support (PSS) Field Officer

 Background:

Purpose

The Psychosocial (PS) Field Officer with technical support of the SRCS White Nile State PSS Project officer and the DRC PS delegate WNS will implement PSS activities of the SRCS-DRC PSS project funded by refugee camps. All PSS activities are to be carried out through the established SRCS structures and have to follow SRCS standards for PSS. The PSS Field Officer will implement PSS and protection activities and supervise the PS volunteers.

Main tasks

Capacity development and technical support

  • Withtechnical support of the DRC PS delegate and the WNS PS Project Manager, enhancethe capacity of volunteers to deliver quality and safe PSS

Representation andliaison

  • Withtechnical support of the DRC PS delegate and the WNS PS Project Officer, establishpartnerships and enhance coordination with relevant stakeholders at the refugee camps level
  • Engagein advocacy and HD activities promoting the SRCS PS services available as andwhen advised by the PS Project Officer and the Branch Director

Programme implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting

  • In closecooperation with the DRC PS Delegate and the PS Project Officer, ensure effectiveimplementation of the PS and protection activities with refugees in thetarget refugee camps
  • Provide safe, dignifying and quality PS and protection services to refugees in the selected refugee camps, including direct PS support to individuals, families and communities
  • Coordinateand supervise PS volunteers in the target locations
  • Contributeto the PMER of SRCS/DRC PS activities in White Nile State
  • Maintainrecords by writing and/or contributing to daily, monthly, quarterly andannual reports to the Branch Director, DRC PS delegate and SRCS PS ProgramOfficer
  • Contributeto rolling out the Caring for Volunteer (CfV) strategy/activities in theWhite Nile

Management andstrategy development

  • Makefield based recommendations to the PS Project Officer and DRC PS Delegate onthe best course of action for the PS services
  • Contribute to the development of LFA and PoA forSRCS PS/CfVinitiatives and activities inWhite Nile State

 


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Personal qualifications

Education

  • Backgroundin Social Sciences such as a BA in Psychology, Social Work, CommunityDevelopment, Sociology, Anthropology

Experience and Knowledge

  • More than 3 years’ experience in a similarposition in a humanitarian organization or NGO, withmore than 2 years’ experience in the area of MHPSSand/or protection
  • Good organizational, communication and advocacyskills
  • Strong interpersonal and cross cultural skills forbuilding synergies and collaboration with partners and beneficiaries
  • Ability to cooperate and network with otherinstitutions and organisations working in the entry points and the camps
  • Ability to assess needs and design psychosocialactivities for vulnerable persons among the refugees
  • Strong facilitation skills
  • Experience in supervision and/or management ofvolunteers
  • Self-supporting in computers (Windows, spread sheets, word processing)

Languages

  • Fluencyin Arabic - spoken and written
  • Fluencyin English-spoken and written

Core Competencies

  • Willing to work according to the Red Cross/RedCrescent fundamental principles
  • Very good communication and technical skills (PFAand supportive communication)
  • Able, willing and committed to work with peoplewith different backgrounds and experiences, includingsurvivors of abuse and SGBV
  • Abilityto guide volunteers and affected population in a respectfulmanner
  • Sensitiveto the feelings expressed and behaviours displayed by the volunteers andaffected population
  • Committedto take responsibility for good communication amongst volunteers
  • Mature, flexible and able to work under pressureassuming a range of unanticipated assignments
  • Willingness to be based in the field in the refugeecamps and to travel regularly between the target locations
  • Ability to assume various roles and assignments asdirected by the immediate supervisor within the scope of the SRCS mandate
