Protection Team Leader

 Background:

Overall purpose of the role:

Under the supervision of the Protection Manager, the Protection Team Leader will ensure the effective implementation of DRC’s protection programming in the assigned area of Khartoum, including management of Khartoum protection staff. The Team Leader is responsible for ensuring excellent organization and coordination of the protection activities under his/her supervision by providing technical and organizational support of Officers/Assistants through daily guidance, and effective work planning. In addition, the TL will be responsible for supporting in coordination, capacity-building, follow-up of ongoing activities, monitoring, and reporting according to donor requirements.

 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide oversight, management, and high-quality delivery of protection programming according to project deliverables

• Ensure that program quality is consistently adhered to, supporting the protection coordinator/manager in developing and updating relevant SOPs

• In collaboration with the Protection Manager, the Team Leader will support with project planning

including work plans, procurement and budget management for the activities under his/her supervision;

• Support and provide technical guidance to protection officers/protection assistants in the identification, recording and response to protection cases and ongoing community-based protection work

• Establish and develop relationships with other agencies’ focal points and maintain coordination with relevant stakeholders.

• Responsible for coordination and support of regular case reviews, conferences, audits and supervision

• Ensure that all information is collected and stored according to global guidelines on data protection

• Ensure that project activities related are carried out in accordance with relevant DRC standards, guidelines and SOPs, DRC Code of Conduct and in coordination with relevant actors in the field.

• Update case management database, produce regular internal reports on cases and referrals.

• Regularly liaise with the DRC MEAL and ensure the accurate management of data records and trackers.

• Provides support to case workers remotely when necessary

• Update the Internal Service Mapping regularly in consultation with the protection team

• Conduct regular visits in the target field locations and support the protection staff with their activities whenever necessary

• Identify technical gaps in the activities and identify/implement solutions to address these gaps.

• Support the Protection Manager by contributing to and providing field-related inputs for protection proposals;

• Ensure the implementation of protection activities under his/her supervision, including appropriate and timely spending plans

• Ensure that activity progress is tracked and actively support in timely reporting

 

Human Resources

• Support the work and activity plan development of the Khartoum protection team

• Supervise the Protection Officer (Case Management), Protection Assistants (Case management) in their daily work, according to work plans.

• Support the PM in identifying capacity gaps to be met through capacity building plans

• Ensure that performance and development is conducted according to DRC’s operations handbook and according to annual timelines 

• Contribute to the recruitment of new staff in coordination with the Protection Manager and Human Resources.

 

Coordination and representation

• Support Protection Manager where appropriate in liaising with relevant stakeholders in Khartoum State.

• Represent DRC at meetings and other relevant technical coordination meetings

 

Logistics/Finance

• Support the Protection Project Manager for monitoring of financial commitments and expenditures against budgets and provide timely feedback on budget follow-up for case management activity.

• Initiate procurements and ensure their execution.

• Ensure distribution plans are prepared and shared with logistics in a timely manner

• Perform any other relevant tasks as requested by Protection Manager. 


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

 University Degree in the field of social sciences, Social work, psychology, humanitarian affairs, international law, development or any other related field Substantive other relevant trainings on Protection

• 2-3 years of professional experience in the field of humanitarian interventions, human rights or community development, preferably with an international humanitarian organization

• 1-2 year of experience in a managerial capacity, including staff management

• Demonstrated commitment to achieving gender equality, promoting women’s leadership and eliminating discrimination and violence against women

• Knowledge about sexual and reproductive health

• Proven leadership skills and experience supervising staff

• Experience in social work or counselling

• Computer skills, including knowledge of Excel

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• Solid knowledge of the migration and displacement context in Sudan and of the protecting issues affecting migrants, refugees and IDPs.

• Demonstrated capacity to effectively represent a humanitarian organization with external partners
