Protection Project Manager
Alight

Alight came to Sudan in 2004 as one of the first humanitarian responders to the emergency needs of some 500,000 war-affected IDPs and host populations in the Tulus and Gereida corridors in South Darfur. In 2014, Alight expanded services its reach to include East Darfur. Today, Alight serves displaced populations and host communities in Kassala, Gedaref, West Kordofan, and East and South Darfur states. Alight provides lifesaving humanitarian action, recovery, and development services in these five states, with a country office based in Khartoum.

Field offices in Kassala, Gedaref, Nyala, El Daein,serve as the key state hubs for program delivery. Alight’s staff is more than 99 percent Sudanese, with nearly 800 full-time staff joined by over 400 incentive and community health and protection workers in delivering lifesaving programs and durable solutions in Sudan.

Alight is registered in Sudan and works closely with Federal and State Line Ministries to carry out its humanitarian and development mandates.

 Duties and responsibilities:

Project Management and implementation:

  • Lead the Village and locality profiling and needs assessments of PSNs in close collaboration with MEAL.
  • Plan, coordinate and monitor project activities to ensure project implementation is in line with targets and identified needs
  • Lead the process of establishing, training and in placing of community based structures around protection and peace building as mentioned in project document.
  • Lead the process of in placing the Survivor focused case management for protection (GBV and child protection) along with ensuring a placement of referral mechanism.
  • Lead the process of youth empowerment and designing and implementing successful youth projects as per project document
  • Draft quarterly and annual donor reports and produce monthly protection monitoring report
  • Provide overall budget monitoring, financial management and expense control for the project activities, including compliance with minimum ARC and donor requirements
  • Conduct at least quarterly visits to assigned field locations and support protection staff with quality implementation of the project activities.
  • Develop monthly work plan and hold bi monthly calls with project staff for progress review including budget their collaboration with relevant community groups and community focal points to identify protection issues and concerns of IDPs and host communities
  • Ensure that case management staff document protection cases, incidents and concerns, and respond appropriately through direct assistance, referral and management of cases, following relevant ARC guidelines, SOPs and existing referral pathways
  • Conduct monthly review meetings with protection staff and MEAL to ensure target vs achievement, adherence to budget forecast and monthly work plans
  • Work closely with all ARC Sectors and Livelihoods Coordinator to ensure linkages are established where relevant between the Protection and other sectors.
  • Develop and present project related operational tools and training modules

 

Program development and strategy:

  • Represent ARC and actively participate in Protection Working Group and other coordination meetings at state
  • Oversee knowledge sharing across teams, and ensure that monitoring and evaluation results are understood and used to improve programs
  • Drive the development and growth of the relevant programs within the ARC program objectives and feed into country- strategy development
  • Serve as the focal point for Protection-related issues for other agencies operating Protection programs and activities in South State.

 

Accountability and reporting:

  • Guided by the ARC Programme Handbook, continuously monitor and develop relevant accountability initiatives within relevant project program as well as strengthening the effort to document the impact of activities
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external reporting requirements including procurement
  • With the support of the CPM, coordinate the rollout of the Complaints and Response Mechanism throughout Protection programming

 

People Management (if relevant)

  • Lead and manage project staff members through performance management including coaching, ensuring coordination, recruitment, and capacity development
  • Provide on the job training as much as required and adapt trainings/coaching to specific staff needs
  • Perform any other relevant tasks as requested by Line Manager
  • Coordinator

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor Degree in business administration, law, social sciences or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of proven experience in project and program management
  • Experience in project management, proposal development, and reporting
  • At least 5 years' experience managing staff
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills for external audiences (including governments and donors)
  • Experience in producing high-quality technical material (training material, program tools, proposals, strategic documents etc.)
  • Experience working with Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Experiences in supervisory responsibilities of a functional or sectoral team
  • fluency in English/Arabic and report writing skills.
