Food Security and Livelihoods Project Manager (FSL PM)

Alight came to Sudan in 2004 as one of the first humanitarian responders to the emergency needs of some 500,000 war-affected IDPs and host populations in the Tulus and Gereida corridors in South Darfur. In 2014, Alight expanded services its reach to include East Darfur. Today, Alight serves displaced populations and host communities in Kassala, Gedaref, West Kordofan, and East and South Darfur states. Alight provides lifesaving humanitarian action, recovery, and development services in these five states, with a country office based in Khartoum.

Field offices in Kassala, Gedaref, Nyala, El Daein,serve as the key state hubs for program delivery. Alight’s staff is more than 99 percent Sudanese, with nearly 800 full-time staff joined by over 400 incentive and community health and protection workers in delivering lifesaving programs and durable solutions in Sudan.

Alight is registered in Sudan and works closely with Federal and State Line Ministries to carry out its humanitarian and development mandates.

 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the FSL project and the project team at both ARC and the partners
  • Strengthen and maintain regular contact with project staff on programmatic issues and oversee the work of the project officers in field stations
  • Participate in all internal and external coordination meetings representing the sector/project;
  • Work with existing programme activities and capitalize on other ongoing similar interventions in the other sectors within ARC;
  • Budget monitoring to ensure implementation is in line with the planned/funded activities, coded correctly as per the budget lines and are appropriately executed
  • Participate and, represent the sector in meetings, quarterly, bi annual and annual reviews and give the required sectoral presentations at these meetings
  • With help from SPC prepare inception reports, work plans and regular donor progress reports for the project and build capacity of the sector staff and partners on the same
  • Ensure the achievement of outputs in line with the approved work plan through the day-to-day planning, management and implementation of activities;
  • With backing from SPC, the project manager will play a role of identification and synthesis of strategies for FSL projects and fostering livelihoods options as a means to reduce community based
  • conflicts.
  • Promote a knowledge sharing and learning culture in the organization (ARC and partners) with regards to Peacebuilding,recovery and livelihoods activities and methodologies;
  • Ensure that all programming is “conflict sensitive”, e.g. through ensuring adherence to the Do-No-Harm principle and any joint operating principles relevant to the programme area;
  • With support from SPC prepare high quality project documents and proposals
  • Contribute towards demonstrating impact of the Livelihoods for peace prgramme e.g. through surveys and ‘Stories of Change’
  • Attend coordination and or other sectoral meetings on behalf of the programme
  • Coordinate and organize Livelihoods for peace staff capacity building programmes
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Senior Program Coordinator

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s in agriculture, economics, social sciences or any other related field, Master degree or advanced educational qualification in Agriculture and development studies is preferable
  • Minimum4years progressively working with INGO in peacebuilding project, livelihood or similar field
  • Sound organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Abilitytomanagemultipleprioritieswithminimalsupervision.
  • Abilityto work well both a steam lead erand team members.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet tight deadlines
  • ComputerproficiencyinWord,Excel,Power Pointand Access.
  • Experience working in greater Darfur area
  • Ability to work productively and impartially in a multi-cultural environment
  • Willingness and ability to work in insecure environment and adhere to ARC security policies
  • Good negotiation skills and ability to settle disputes.
