The Near East Foundation (NEF) is seeking applicants for an Accountant & Administrative Officer to be based in Kadugli, South Kordofan State, in Sudan. For over 100 years, NEF has worked to build a more sustainable, prosperous, and inclusive communities in the Middle East and Africa through economic development and governance initiatives.  Duties and responsibilities:

Position Description:

The Accountant & Administrative Officer is a key member of the Near East Foundation South Kordofan team in Sudan. The Accountant & Administrative will ensure that appropriate accounting/administrative controls are applied to the projects in accordance with donor regulations and that all financial reporting is on time and meets the requirements of the donors and NEF.

Under the overall supervision of the Finance Manager, the Accountant & Administrative Officer will have the following duties and responsibilities:

Accountant responsibilities

  • Compile entries into the accounting software on a daily basis;
  • Assist NEF Admin/Finance Manager in overseeing financial management of the projects within the context of NEF, and donor policies and procedures;
  • Verify procurement process by reviewing invoices for accuracy and ensuring that appropriate procurement authorization and supporting documentation are attached and in accordance with NEF procurement process;
  • Manage accounts payable process within the accounting software;
  • Keep an up-to-date balance and send the cash status to the Finance Manager on a daily basis;
  • Monitor the project cash flow to ensure that funds are available as and when needed and provide regular cash flow projections to the NEF Finance Manager;
  • Assist in monitoring expenditure against budget, investigate variances, and provide explanations and projections as required;
  • Support internal and external auditing of project activities as and when required;
  • Maintain a good filing system for all Finance documentation;
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports to donors, ensuring that all supporting documents are provided.

Administrative responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to the project team to ensure the successful implementation of activities;
  • Ensure staff adheres to all NEF HR policies and procedures;
  • Maintain filing system for all Admin documents (Leave, medical reports, contracts, etc.) within the Human Resources Information System;
  • Prepare necessary contracts (Supplier/Vendor, Staff, etc.);
  • Keep an up-to-date asset register list;
  • Assist in the recruitment process;
  • Oversee the office supplies and determine needs;

 

Other responsibilities

  • Any other duties relating to the nature of the job as requested by the supervisor or delegate.

 


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Key Qualifications:

  • University degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Economics, etc;
  • At least 5 years of related experience in Finance and 3 years’ experience in Admin;
  • At least 3 years of experience working for international non-governmental organizations;
  • Strong ability to work independently, organize work, meet deadlines, maintain composure, prioritize work under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Experience designing and using databases;
  • Previous experience working on USAID, UNDP, or other internationally funded projects;
  • Fluency in Arabic and English, both written and verbal;
  • Experience working in remote locations especially in SKS;
  • High-level of knowledge and practice with Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. required.
