 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide training, coaching and mentorship for all nurses and other health care workers in the ER department through bedside training and hands on support to improve the quality of care focused on nursing.
  • Under the supervision and in collaboration with the Nurse Activity Manager (MSF) and Matron ER department, plan and coordinate (nursing) care at the service/department level.
  • Plan and assign (nursing) staff appropriately, matching assignments with patient care needs and competencies.
  • Participate in the development of patient care standards; facilitates staff orientation and continuing education; participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of the quality improvement plan; and maintains a clinical environment that demonstrates service excellence.
  • To be a continuous professional role model and resource person, supporting the daily nursing care in the ER department.
  • Make assignments that reflect consideration of patient census, acuity, staff mix, staff’s level of clinical competence, and unit standards taking patient assignments as deemed necessary.
  • Delegate’s task within the team member authorized scope of practice.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and staff information according to universal medical ethics.
  • Provides and supports appropriate experiences that promote growth and development of all staff.
  • Provide information to patient and health care team by answering questions and requests.
  • Actively participates in continuing educational activities to enhance professional competence.
  • Capable of establishing and maintaining effective relationship with members of the health care team, participate in team problem-solving methods.
  • Follow IPC measures in Emergency Department and be a role model for (medical) staff related to application of IPC measures.
  • Identify needs, support and implement improvement activities related to IPC in the ER department in close collaboration with the OTH Infection Control department and Nurse Activity Manager
  • Support project emergency preparedness related to MCP, cholera and possible other predefined scenario’s, with facilitations of trainings (and simulations) for all involved staff (for example case definitions, case management, etc). 
  • Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained. Ensuring that cleaning and minor maintenance tasks of medical devices are performed according to the protocols.
  • Reporting any malfunction to the biomedical service of OTH in close collaboration with the logistic department

 

Mobile clinics:

  • Coordinate, plan and supervise the mobile health activities for your appointed team
  • Ensure MSF and/or international protocols are in place and followed
  • Ensure the medical supply is managed properly and according to MSF guidelines and protocols, this include follow up rational drug presciption, proper storage of medical items, consumption tracking, preparing medical regular orders and provide support for the dispenser.
  • Ensure medical data is collected accordingly and submitted to the data encoder timely.
  • Supervise the appropriate use of medical devices, ensure all staff is using medical devices are trained and qualified, ensure routine cleaning and maitance are being preformed according to MSF protocols and guidelines and report malfunctions of devices to linemanager.
  • Ensure cold chain is managed accordingly; vaccine carriers are packed accordingly, temperature is monitored regulary and vaccines are stored properly.
  • Ensure laboratory testing is done accordingly (including rational usage of tests, sample collection, interpretation of results, maintance & cleaning of devices and calibration, registration etc)
  • Ensure IPC measures are in place and followed, ensure all staff is trained and follow the same standards.
  • Ensure proper waste management on site and ensure proper waste disposal in dedicated areas.
  • Build relationship with local community, including to support awareness of MSF activities and organisation.

 

General:

  • Give feedback/ reports to respective line manager.
  • Participate in (medical) meetings and regular reporting on project level. Flexibility be reassigned to other tasks and working locations if indicated in order to support MSF medical activities

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Minimum requirements:

  • Education: Nursing diploma. Specialization in Emergency Care is desirable.
  • Experience: Essential 2 years of previous experience, essential in Hospital setting, desirable in Emergency Department. Having worked in MSF or other NGO’s and in developing countries is desirable.
  • Languages: Fluency in Arabic and English.
