 Background:

The GIZ Project “Employment Initiative Khartoum” is aiming at improving employment perspective for refugees and host communities in Khartoum by providing employment oriented qualification measures and by promoting private sector development initiatives. The Project is setting up its office in Khartoum and is in need of a driver for a light project vehicle.

 

The GIZ Project Office for the project “Employment Initiative Khartoum” is looking for a qualified person to fill the following position:

Driver

The Driver is reporting to the Project’s Head of Administration and Finance Section of the Employment Initiative Khartoum project.

The duty station for the driver is in Khartoum. Duty trips to locations outside Khartoum might be possible.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

A. Responsibilities

The Driver is responsible for

  • Safely and responsibly performing all official travel using official vehicles
  • Regularly servicing and looking after official vehicles
  • Taking account of all available information on road conditions, accessible routes and locations
  • Running official errands and
  • Assisting with other office work

The Driver performs the following tasks:

B. Tasks

1. Driving 

  • Provide passenger transport in an official car for office, project or programme staff, official visitors and guests
  • Run errands for the project, programme or office, e.g. sending letters and messages, paying bills and buying smaller quantities of office supplies
  • Help with transporting goods
  • Complete the vehicle log correctly and conscientiously in accordance with GIZ standards

2. Service

  • Cleaning the interior and exterior of the vehicle(s) regularly
  • Checking oil, water, brakes and brake liquid, tyre pressure, battery levels and the entire vehicle, monthly, headlights, brakes, bodywork for dents etc. 
  • Assuming responsibility for the project vehicle documents and their good condition, keeping a vehicle log and recording monthly maintenance
  • Calculating monthly petrol, oil and lubricant consumption for the daily cash fund and for forwarding monthly vouchers to cost accounting
  • Reporting need for service and carries out minor repairs
  • Reporting immediately all involvement of project vehicles in accidents, including minor accidents, damage, loss or theft of vehicle fittings

3. Knowledge management

  • Using all available information (including current radio news on traffic conditions) to update daily knowledge of road conditions, current passable routes and locations, and shares this information with other office drivers

4. Other duties/additional tasks

  • Assisting other colleagues as needed in the project, programme or office if there is no travel pending
  • Carrying out other office work on request
  • Performing other duties and tasks at the request of management

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Qualifications

  • Secondary school education
  • Hold a valid driver’s licence
  • Technical knowledge of a vehicle and engine is a plus
  • Professional experience: at least 3 years’ work experience as a driver with references 
  • No major accidents in the past 3 years
  • Other knowledge, additional competences
  • Good knowledge of Arabic and English, ability to read and write in English for logbook purposes
  • Discipline and punctuality
  • Resilience and patience
  • Familiarity withinGedaref and Kassala town and states in Eastern Sudan
  • Appropriate appearance and attire (possibly uniform, friendly manner with all passengers)
  • Ensure unrestricted availability of vehicles at all times and reports restrictions immediately
  • Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management
