The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), an impartial, neutral and independent organisation striving to protect and assist victims of armed conflict and internal violence, has been working in Sudan since 1978. The ICRC is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person for the position of Radio Operator for its Sub-delegation in Elfashir.

Purpose:

​The Radio Operator operates the ICRC’s telecommunications equipment. S/he maintains radio contact and telecommunications between sites, vehicles and people so that the delegation can follow field movements in accordance with its programme and with security rules.

·         Follows communication and transmission activity via telecommunications equipment.

·         Ensures constant contact with people moving in the field and takes appropriate action as stipulated under security rules and internal guidelines.

·         Proactively maintains information flow on security-related issues.

·         Updates lists of field movements, messages transmitted, etc.

·         Gives radio-related briefings if required.

·         Operates all machines for voice and for data communication

·         Manages the IT equipment’s based in the radio room

·         Responsible for the telephone switchboard operations when needed

·         Supports other sites (sub-delegations, offices etc.)

·         Bachelor Degree, some college coursework completed, or an Associate Degree is an asset.

·         Vocational training in electronics, telecommunication, IT or similar field an asset.

·         3-5 years of experience in electronics, information technology, telecommunication or similar position

·         Good knowledge of the country and local terrain.

·         Some experience working with the ICRC an asset.

·         Good command (spoken and written) of English and/or French.

·         Good computer knowledge.

·         Skilled in the following competencies: Leadership, Accountability, People management, Team work & Collaboration, Representing the ICRC, Beneficiary & Client focused.
