Background: In January 2017, the European Union signed an agreement with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) for the implementation of the project “Natural Resources Management for Sustainable Livelihoods Programme in East Darfur” In three additional localities in east Darfur. Accordingly, in February 2017, UNOPS signed a contribution agreement with UN Environment to jointly implement the above-mentioned project including ZOA who is leading a consortium of NGOs. UNOPS is the lead agency for this programme. The project overall objective is to contribute to improved livelihoods and poverty alleviation of conflict-affected populations in East Darfur. The project purpose is to ensure that the natural resources are more sustainably and productively used by the population of the three localities in East Darfur. Special attention will be paid to water, land and forest resources through delivering three results, namely:
Project Description The natural resources Policy framework has been officially approved by the state legislative council as an act in June 2018. The Act is called “Council act for coordination and management of natural resources policies in east Darfur-2018”. The East Darfur Wali has issued a decree to establish the membership of the council in August 2018. The council members in their first meeting have elected a chairperson, a deputy and a secretary general. The CCMNRP has developed its workplan as well as its capacity building plan and the later plan includes trainings and study tours among which the strategic planning training workshop is one. These trainings contribute to the institutional and community capacity building plan which UNEP is supporting contributing to the deliverables of result one of the NRM project. Purpose The goal of the strategic planning training is to empower the council members who are the current and future champions in the natural resources sectors as well as in the communities, to get acquainted with the major parts of a strategic plan and how to develop a sound strategic plan. |

Duties and responsibilities: Train 30 participants who are members of the council for coordination and management of natural resource policies in East Darfur in strategic plan development with the view to:
Topics to be covered by the training In a fully participatory process discuss with the council members (the participants) the major elements of strategic plan.
