Infrastructure Projects Context

Infrastructure developments comprising of four stages; namely: project initiation stage; project design stage; procurement stage and construction stage including the defects notification stage. Each stage will be comprised of various tasks that include feasibility study, need assessment, cost estimates timelines, design developments for simple projects and/or design reviews, preparation of terms of reference, Request for Quotation (RFQ), Request for Proposal (RFP) and Invitation to Bid (ITB), contract document preparations, construction supervision and monitoring until the expiry of the defects notification period. Projects will be located at various regions in Ethiopia, Sudan and Djibouti.

 

Background Information - Sudan

Sudan

The UNOPS Sudan office is based in Khartoum and works closely with the Government of Sudan and international partners to support humanitarian response, recovery and development initiatives. UNOPS is the United Nations sector lead for the Basic Infrastructure Sector in Sudan and helps partners achieve their project goals in sectors including: water resource management, education, census and elections, human resource management and mine action.

 

 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

The drivers required will be for the locations of Kassala, Port Sudan, El Fasher and Khartoum.
 

Under the general supervision of the Project Manager, the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services and clerical support ensuring high accuracy of work. The Driver demonstrates a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

The Driver provides driving services to the personnel in the office, consultants and experts and UNOPS personnel on mission. She or he also provides clerical support services inside and messenger services outside the office as required.

Details:

Provides reliable and secure driving services by

a)    driving office vehicles for the project team and visitors

b)    Collecting and delivering mail, documents and other items;

c) meeting official personnel at the airport and facilitating immigration and customs formalities as required.

  • Ensures proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
  • Ensures the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle by checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tries, etc.; performing minor repairs and arranging for major repairs; and ensuring that the vehicle is kept clean.
  • Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, and map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts.
  • Ensures that immediate steps as required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident.

 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

a. Education

  • Secondary/high school education is required  
  • Formal drivers training with a valid driver’s license. Sudanese Driving License is a must.

b. Work Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Safe driving record, knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair is required.
  • Clean driving record is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the UN will be an advantage.

C. Language:

  • Fluency in Arabic is required.
  • Good knowledge of English is highly desirable
