The GIZ Office in Khartoum is looking for a qualified person to fill the following position:

The officer is reporting to the financee and Admin Manager of the vocational training and food security for refugees and host communities project in Eastern Sudan.

On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Delegation of the European Union, GIZ started the implementation of a new project recentlyin Kassala and Gedaref. The project aims at improving the livelihoods of the local population and refugees alike in two areas of intervention:

  1. Supporting the government and the private sector in improving the quality and availability of market-oriented vocational training for young women and men;
  2. Supporting small industry unions in providing business development services (BDS) for employment-oriented growth of small and medium-sized enterprises.

 Duties and responsibilities:

The Office Caretaker/ Gardener will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring that the office premises and grounds are clean and tidy
  • Reports damages to office areas and equipment -Identifying items/ areas needing attention, both inside and outside, and reporting to the Office Manager.
  • Running errands and carrying out other tasks needed to run the office smoothly


C Tasks

The Office Caretaker/ Gardener performs the following tasks:

  1. Office Services
  • In liason with the cleaning company, ensures that the premises, rooms, verandas, furniture, office equipment,  and windows are cleaned.
  • Reports damages and items/ equipment needing repairs to the Office Manager.
  • Checks and refills cleaning, kitchen and washroom supplies.
  • Sets up and prepares the conference rooms and terraces as instructed
  • Ensures that the kitchen and bathroom towels are cleaned and changed daily.
  • Checks and refills cooking gas in the kitchen and advises Office Manager on re-fills
  • Photocopying/ scanning documents for the Admin staff
  • Checking and ensuring water tanks are always filled, and reporting to the Office Manager when there is a water shortage, to ensure timeous re-filling.
  • Managing the switching on and off of the generator
  • Ensuring that water bottles for drinking water are filled all the time, and advising the Office Manager on re-order levels.
  • Checking and advising the Office Manager on electricity levels and top up.


  1. Gardening Tasks
  • Maintaining the flower bed and lawn and always ensuring that the garden is neat, watered and pruned.
  • Making sure the grounds are always free of dirt.
  • Ensuring that the installations and movable assets/ equipment kept outside are arranged in an orderly manner.


  1. Other duties/additional tasks
  • performs other duties and tasks at the request of the management

 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Secondary school education
  • At least 1-3 years working experience in a comparable position with references
  • Reliability and good organisation skills, appropriate appearance and clothing
  • A good spoken command of English is an additional advantage
