 Background:

On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), GIZ is implementing the project “Food Security and Water Supply for Refugees and Host Communities in Gedaref and Kassala”.

The programme has three areas of intervention and aims at improving the livelihoods of the local population, refugees, and migrants:

1.         Improving Food Security and thereby increasing agricultural yields;

2.         Improving the nutrition security through the production of vegetables;

3.         Improving the supply of drinking water, sanitation and hygiene.

 

The Communication Officer (CO) reports to the Planning Advisor (PA)of the project “Food Security and Water Supply for Refugees and Host Communities in Gedaref and Kassala”.

The Communication Officer will be based in Gedaref. The position will require regular travels within Sudan.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

The Communication Officer will provide key functions in external and internal communication:

  • Develop a communication strategy targeting various audiences in collaboration with the project team
  • Production of photo- video- and possibly audio material
  • Design of visibility material (e.g. banners, posters, shirts)
  • Linking up with local media and production of press releases
  • Liaising with external PR and communication service providersand managing contracts with suppliers and contractors;
  • Assure implementation of corporate design standards by GIZ and implementing partners
  • Assure and assist in proper usage of GIZ internal digital communication tools
  • Events planning and management with regards to visibility
  • Monitor communication activities

 

Other Activities

  • Any other duties/functions as deemed necessary or as delegated by the Project Manager to meet the level of the services of the organization/project.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Training/ Education:

  • Degree in Communication, Graphic Design, Filmmaking, Photography or Journalism

Technical specific knowledge:

  • Advanced proficiency in graphic design, photo and video editing software, video- and photography,

Previous experience:

  • At least 2 years of professional experience in comparable positions, preferably on the field level (outside of Khartoum)

Languages:

  • Native level Arabic, Excellent level of English

IT and specific systems:

  • Photo, video and design software

Personal skills:

  • Strong team work and communication skills
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex concepts and process information
  • Flexibility, high self-initiative and creative thinking
  • Excellent inter-cultural and inter-personal competencies
  • The candidate should have knowledge of the Gedaref and Kassala region in East Sudan and be willing to drive to field locations
