 Background:

Under the direct supervision of the Team Leader, the Health and Nutrition officer will be in charge of CARE’s Health and Nutrition program implementation in Kassala State. The officer is responsible for supporting all CARE’s health and nutrition activities within Kassala state. The Health and Nutrition Officer is responsible for providing guidelines, technical support and strategic direction to other Health and Nutrition staffs under his/her supervision, seconded staffs from the ministry of health and partner field officers/assistants. The Health and Nutrition Officer will assume overall responsibility for health and nutrition related reporting requirements and ensuring that the program’s Health/Nutrition Information System (HIS system) is accurate and meets the reporting needs. The Officer will have strong analytical skills, and s/he will suggest practical strategies for responding to changes in the operating environment as well as maintaining a focus on longer term objectives.

 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

· Implementing CARE’s Health and Nutrition activities (45%)

· Coordination (10%) by Ensure the Health and Nutrition projects are implemented integrated with other CARE projects .

· Supervise the seconded staffs working at the different health and nutrition facilities including the stabilization center  (10%) Assessment (10%) in collaboration with other team members, the health and nutrition officer undertakes detail project specific need assessments, prepares reports and analyses, budget estimates in response to emerging emergencies throughout the state and forward to supervisor for review

· M&E and reporting (10%)

· Contribute to the Success of CIS Partnership Approach

· Uphold CARE Values and contribute to CIS shared priorities

· Any other assignment  related to the job

 

 


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Successful Applicants will have:

· BSc in medicine, public health, nutritional Sciences or other related fields

· Minimum of 3 years’ experience in implementing integrated health and nutrition programs; an international NGO or equivalent experience with national organizations with management responsibilities

· Demonstrate analytical and conceptual skills to plan projects, timetable agreed activities and oversee staff activities

· Strong communication & interpersonal skills; comfortable engaging in dialogue with a range of actors including communities leaders and other community structures, government departments, local authorities, CBOs and other NGOs.

· Good communication skills (verbal and written) in both Arabic and English; Ability to write reports in both English and Arabic

· Good team player, flexible and capable of working with a multi-national Sub Office and Country team

· Ability and willingness to travel to locations outside base station to program operational areas and live in sometime basic conditions.

· Excellent computer skills – Microsoft word, power point and excel

· Experience in engaging the community and community mobilization

· Ability to work with minimum supervision.

· Willing to work with the disadvantaged / vulnerable people under stress and in difficult situation

· Fluent in both Arabic and English languages in order to write reports and translate documents
