 Background:

The United Nations Global Compact is a non-binding United Nationspact to encourage businesses worldwide to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies, and to report on their implementation.

A Local Network of the United Nations Global Compact is organized at the national level by participants who come together voluntarily to advance the UN Global Compact and its principles locally. It serves as an essential role in rooting the Global Compact within different national contexts and their distinct economic, cultural and linguistic needs.

In order to implement its mission in a proper way, the UNGC Local Network in Sudan is looking for qualified person to support and run its activities.

 Duties and responsibilities:

Under the guidance and direction of the UNGC in New York, and under the direct supervision of the LN executive committee, the UNGC Local Network Executive Director will be required to assume responsibility for the coordination, and management of the UNGC Local Network Project activities as described in the project work plans. The UNGC Local Network coordinator will be responsible for the following tasks/ duties:

 

The UNGC Local Network Executive Director will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring that the network is actively facilitating and supporting the business community.
  • Providing strong support on the overall management and coordination of the Global Compact initiative in Sudan.
  • Lead a dynamic network to implement annual work plan related to project activities: plan and organize workshops, training sessions, webinars etc. to facilitate the translation of principles in practical activities.
  • Engage prospective and existing UN Global Compact participants, as well as policy makers through making presentations, and facilitating workshops, which advocate the UN Global Compact Principles;
  • Process incoming applications and queries from prospective UNGC members.
  • Stimulate active contributions from signatories based in Sudan, develop and monitor their ability to successfully submit and maintain a UNGC ‘Communication on Progress (COP).
  • Identify the best means of private sector engagement towards resource mobilization and the sustainability of the Local Network.
  • Design and develop compelling content and story-telling to maximize impact and lessons learning, through policy briefs and UNGC local network booklets and brochures.
  • Maintain an active online presence.
  • Maintain regular communication with members on UNGC related events and matters.
  • Organize executive committee meetings, prepare the agenda in consultation with the different stakeholders and follow through on identified actions.
  • Liaise with UNGC New York and maximize use of their competencies and support.
  • Find ways to keep the network “alive and dynamic” through local engagement, both in and away from Khartoum.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • University degree.
  • Minimum experience of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge and demonstrable experience in the UN environment is required.
  • Ability to act with integrity, reliability and diligence as well as attention to detail are vital for the position.
  • Passionate about the concept of UNGC principles.
  • Familiar with and experience with CSR policies / corporate sustainability agenda.
  • Highly motivated individual who works collaboratively with colleagues as a Team player

Languages

  • Arabic language and fluency in English is essential.
