 Background:

The UNFPA Internship Programme offers university students, students in a similar educational programme or university graduates the opportunity to acquire direct exposure to UNFPA operations. It is designed to complement primarily development-oriented studies or studies in related fields with practical experience.

Applicants should have expressed interest in the field of development; ability to adapt to new environments and work with individuals from different cultural backgrounds. Interns work under the supervision of a staff member at UNFPA. The background of the interns is matched with the needs of the organization.

Learning opportunities for the intern:

  • General understanding of the work and mandate of the UNFPA programme, the role of stakeholders and partners at national and global level to development effectiveness.
  • Insight and hands-on experience in UNFPA’s role in facilitating and promoting the project that has public health dimensions.
  • Insight and hands-on experience in organizing and running complex projects.
  • Becoming more familiar with working in an International Organization and in a multicultural environment


 
 Duties and responsibilities:

The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Field Office Team Leader to assist in:

  • Assist the program officers in coordinating Y-PEER and outreach related activities (trainings, meetings, development of Y-PEER publications, web-site update, etc.) on national level and assist the officers in the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of said activities.
  • Assist the program officers in ensuring Y-PEER promotion on the national as well as state level and ensure greater representation of different NGOs and other institutions that work on youth sexual and reproductive health promotion and HIV/AIDS/STIs prevention in the Y-PEER Network.
  • Assist the program officers to ensuring equal opportunity for participation of all organizations/institutions and individuals that are part of the Y-PEER National Network in all Y-PEER related activities both on national and regional/international level
  • Assist the program officers to provide updates and input for outreach and Y-PEER reports, and contribute articles for the Y-PEER Newsletter as well as Y-PEER Bulletin Board.
  • Assist in writing monthly report of the activities and accomplishments of the Y-PEER state/National Network and share it with the supervisors.
  • Collaborate with Y-PEER International Coordinators and other Focal Points, coordinate, and communicate national updates and activities with them.
  • Assist in identifying and maintaining partners of the established y-peer network.
  • Assist the program officers in establishment process of national youth Advisory panel and follow up with committee after its establishment
  • Support the in other relevant activities as necessary.

The intern is expected to give careful consideration to the confidentiality and security of collected data, and the proper use of information.

The interns are also expected to strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of Administration and projects management as well as the above mentioned policy frameworks by reading relevant UNFPA and other publications.


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Education:

Bachelor or a Student pursuing a Master degree

 

- Relevant experience in health promotion, training and education; conducting peer education 

  trainings and workshops; working with young people; working with Y-Peer.

Language skills:

Written and spoken proficiency in Arabic and English

Others:

Demonstrated interest in the field of development and the work of international organizations.

 


Financial Aspects:

Interns do not receive a salary from UNFPA. In addition, applicants must have medical insurance for the duration of the internship. Proof of insurance will need to be submitted before the internship begins.
