 Background:

The GIZ Office Khartoum has been re-established in March 2018. GIZ Offices are the central element of GIZ’s field structure. The GIZ Office provides human resources and commercial support services for projects in their areas. Furthermore, the GIZ Offices perform internal audits of the project administrations in the public-benefit sector.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

 

Responsibilities include:

The Driver is reporting to the Project’s Administration and Finance Manager or who it may delegate to do so.

The position foresees regular duty trips to the field and to other States in Sudan.

A. Responsibilities

The Driver is responsible for

  • Safely and responsibly performing all official travel using official vehicles
  • Regularly servicing and looking after official vehicles
  • Taking account of all available information on road conditions, accessible routes and locations
  • Running officialerrands and
  • Assistingwithotherofficework

The Driver performs the following tasks:

B. Tasks

1. Driving

  • Provide passenger transport in an official car for office, project or programme staff, official visitors and guests
  • Run errands for the project, programme or office, e.g. sending letters and messages, paying bills and buying smaller quantities of office supplies
  • Help withtransportinggoods
  • Complete the vehicle log correctly and conscientiously in accordance with GIZ standards

2. Service

  • Cleaning the interior and exterior of the vehicle(s) regularly
  • Checking oil, water, brakes and brake liquid, tyre pressure, battery levels and the entire vehicle, monthly, headlights, brakes, bodywork for dents etc. 
  • Assuming responsibility for the project vehicle documents and their good condition, keeping a vehicle log and recording monthly maintenance
  • Calculating monthly petrol, oil and lubricant consumption for the daily cash fund and for forwarding monthly vouchers to cost accounting
  • Reporting need for service and carries out minor repairs
  • Reporting immediately all involvement of project vehicles in accidents, including minor accidents, damage, loss or theft of vehicle fittings

3. Knowledge management

  • Using all available information (including current radio news on traffic conditions) to update daily knowledge of road conditions, current passable routes and locations, and shares this information with other office drivers

4. Other duties/additional tasks

  • Assisting other colleagues as needed in the project, programme or office if there is no travel pending
  • Carrying out other office work on request
  • Performing other duties and tasks at the request of management

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

 

C. Required qualifications, competences and experience

Qualifications

  • Secondaryschooleducation
  • Hold a valid driver’slicence
  • Technical knowledge of a vehicle and engine is a plus
  • Professional experience: at least 3 years’ work experience as a driver with references 
  • No major accidents in the past 3 years
  • Other knowledge, additional competences
  • Good knowledge of Arabic and English, ability to read and write in English for logbook purposes
  • Discipline and punctuality
  • Resilience and patience
  • Familiarity within Blue Nile state towns in Concern in South east Sudan Region
  • Appropriate appearance and attire (possibly uniform, friendly manner with all passengers)
  • Ensure unrestricted availability of vehicles at all times and reports restrictions immediately
  • Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management
