Social and Behavior Change Communication Officer

Muslim Aid is a faith-based British international charity that provides help to people who are victims of natural disasters, conflict or suffering from poverty, hunger, disease and illiteracy. It was established in the United Kingdom in 1985 in response to the drought in the Horn of Africa. Muslim Aid's Sudan Country office (MASCO) was set up in 1991 in response to the strategic need and to enable the continuation of effective aid work in the country. Currently, Muslim Aid is implementing projects in Kassala, Central Darfur and Red Sea State , Algazieera State , Gdarief State in Sudan.


 Salary: 3200 SDG net salary will be paid in USD 422 approximately

 Background:

Under the supervision of Health and Nutrition Program Coordinator, the SBCC Officer shall be responsible for implementation of the Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) component of all projects in Kassala state. The SBCC Officer will be responsible of promoting and adoption of health practices and creating demand for Nutrition, Maternal Neonatal and Child Health services, family planning, Sanitation and hygiene other health related issues.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Actively participate in the development and distribution of SBCC/IEC, materials and services.
  • Lead training of SBCC volunteers and other key stakeholders at the community level to increase adoption of health practices and demand for integrated health services.
  • Form mothers group and train them on variety of topics such as; health, nutrition, importance of balanced diet, breast feeding, family planning, hygiene, and sanitation
  • Work in liaison and coordination with other health and nutrition team to develop and oversee dissemination of SBCC messages and campaign materials, training/capacity building of other staff and oversight of SBCC activities.
  • Execute the project’s communication campaigns, (mass media) communication, Community Interpersonal communication, and Social Media communication campaigns.
  • Carry out community sensitization campaigns for targeted beneficiaries.
  • Working with the M&E and Health and Nutrition Program Coordinator to monitor and evaluate the progress and impact of SBCC activities.
  • Assist in documenting project results and impacts including lessons learned, case studies and contributing to regular quarterly and annual reporting.
  • Carry out day-to-day follow up for the implementation of integrated project communication activities at the field levels.
  • Receive the community volunteer’s reports and Prepare and send weekly, monthly and quarterly progress reports on the project’s communication activities to the Health and Nutrition Program Coordinator.
  • Ensure that the activities implemented in close collaboration with the MOH.
  • Performs any other related tasks as required by the line manager.

 


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Bsc degree in nutrition/ Public Health or other health related science field is required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in implementing social and behavior change communication programs preferably with INGOs
  • Additional training in Nutrition, maternal, child health and FP is an added advantage.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Excellent community mobilization skills
  • Ability to work individually and within a team with limited supervision.
  • Field experience in developing and implementing SBCC projects and program
  • Knowledge of evidence-based, innovative, and practical solutions to communication challenges.
  • Demonstrated experience in Training facilitation.
  • Strength in interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and negotiation skills, and experience working in collaboration with the private sector, government, partners, donors, and NGOs.
  • Ability to set priorities while multi-tasking, and meet deadlines.
  • Good Computer knowledge – Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Language requirements:  Arabic and Fluency in English is essential.
  • Ability to travel in country.
