Sudan is a huge country, more than four times the size of Sweden and the third largest in Africa—even after South Sudan was carved out in 2011. Sudan has a lot of land and resources, a population of 40 million and a history that predates the Nubian kingdoms established along the Nile River around 4,000 BC.

Sudan’s children make up half of the total population, and the past two decades have seen their lives improve. Fewer boys and girls are dying before their fifth birthday. Primary school attendance is increasing. Immunization coverage is high and the country remains polio free.

Still, millions of children continue to suffer from chronic conflict, from seasonal natural disasters and disease outbreaks, from under-investment in basic social services. Sudan ranks as one of the worst in the world for malnutrition, and three million of its school aged children are not in the classroom

How can you make a difference?

Looking for national consultant to provide technical support to ensure efficient Implementation of UNICEF-supported health and nutrition interventions including EPI, Maternal newborn care, IMCI/ ICCM, CMAM, MNs supplementation and IYCF, based in Kassala, Gedaref, Red Sea, Kadugli, El Fula, El Obeid, ElFasher, Nyala, Edaein, Genena, Kosti, Damazine, Sennar for six months

The specific tasks expected to be carried out by the consultant is: To conduct regular field monitoring visits to ensure UNICEF supported health and nutrition activities are implemented as planned.

• Consultant should ensure that 3 to 4 monitoring visits are conducted per week (# of HFs/OTPs, communities, MSGs & CMWs to be visited should be included in the monitoring plan, while the actual number visited should be reflected in the monthly monitoring reports)    
• Support H&N supplies chain management
• Monitor supply availability and utilization at state, locality and facility levels and ensure that timely alert of possible stock out is shared with supervisor
• Share regular stock report
• Monitoring IPs warehouses/ storage conditions
• Monitor and document IPs efforts to prevent supply leakage.
• Monitor quality of health and nutrition service delivery, including CMAM, IYCF, MNs supplementation, Maternal newborn care, EPI and IMCI/ ICCM
• Provide on the job mentoring support to H&N Programmes focal points at locality and facility level to improve their skills in implementing and monitoring H&N interventions including UNICEF supported ones
• Monitor the implementation of community based interventions including c-IYCF, c-IMCI, promotion of key Health, Nutrition & hygiene practices.
• Support end users monitoring & ensure beneficiaries feedback is reflected.
• Collect and share monthly state/ locality reports/databases for CMAM, IYCF, EPI, Maternal newborn care, MNs supplementation and IMCI/ ICCM services
• Support analysis of programme data to identify poor performing sites and localities and inform the monthly monitoring plan
• Conduct training for Locality-level Programme Coordinators on use of monitoring scorecards, and KOBO tool box for monitoring
• Ensure using of Kobo tool box to reflect monitoring visits findings
• Facilitate development of monthly monitoring plan based on the gaps hindering service uptake and quality of care at state level and locality level.
• Support implementation of state and locality monitoring plans to address the gaps timely.
• Timely sharing of good quality monthly monitoring reports, highlighting bottlenecks, challenges and recommended solutions.
• Coordinate monthly meetings with implementing partners dedicated to review monitoring reports and implementation of recommendations and action points from previous monitoring conducted.
• Support development of performance improvement plan based on monitoring visits findings
• Share at least 2 success stories with supervisor on monthly basis to document good practices.

Expected Deliverables

• Six (6) monthly reports, one report per month containing (analysis of CMAM, IMCI/ICCM, EPI, RH and new born care data from SMOH, identification of low performing sites and localities, market monitoring of health and nutrition supplies, alert of stock out of health and nutrition supplies, summary of findings of monitoring visits of PHCs/OTP and status of implementation of recommendations and action points) due on 25^th of each month  
• 90 KOBO reports submitted for monitoring visits of cumulatively 90 PHCs/OTPs delivering health and nutrition services (15 PHC/OTP visits per month) due on 25^th of each month  
• Twelve (12) human interest stories written (two each month) due on 25^th of each month
• Final Consultancy Report 30^th June, 2019

• University degree in public health, nutrition, social science or any related technical field.
• Minimum of two years of health and nutrition work experience.
• Experience on H&N programs supervision, coordination and reporting.
• Experience on facilitating trainings on H&N programs.
• Fluency in English and Arabic (oral and written) is mandatory
• Analytical, negotiating, communication and advocacy skills.
• Computer skills, including internet navigation and various office applications.
• Ability to meet deadlines, work under stress and work with minimal supervision.
