On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), GIZ is implementing the project “Food Security for Refugees and Adjacent Communities in Gedaref and Kassala states. The programme is implemented under the host agreement between the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the Government of Sudan. The programme has three areas of intervention and aims at improving the livelihoods of the local population, refugees, and migrants:

Improving Food Security and thereby increasing agricultural yields;

Improving the nutrition security through the production of vegetables;
-
Improving the supply of drinking water, sanitation and hygiene.
GIZ Sudan is looking for a qualified person to fill the following position: Junior advisor for Food Security Project Gedaref Office
A. Responsibilities:
The junior advisor provides support for:

The team leader for whom the junior advisor performs technical tasks

Coordinating project activities
-
Carrying out specific tasks which are required for planning the implementation of projects or programmes

Carrying out specific tasks relating to knowledge management for the project
-
The team leader in carrying out project activities.
The junior advisor performs the following tasks:
B. Tasks
1. Coordination and monitoring:
The junior advisor:
-
Puts together an overview of project/programme activities, deadlines etc. and presents this during team meetings;
-
Supports project monitoring and updates information on project progress, documents and reports regularly on the status of results;
-
Assists with recording and documenting the results of all activities;
-
Draws up media analyses, participates in fora and public hearings on issues directly connected with the project/programme;
-
Assists with planning, coordinating and documenting meetings, workshops, seminars and other project activities with a focus on technical aspects;
-
Orders and distributes PR materials on the project/programme as well as GIZ PR materials;
-
Assists with PR work for the project/programme.
2. Knowledge management:
The junior advisor:
-
Assists in drawing up reports and translations;
-
Establishes a project database;
-
Assists in communicating, updating and collecting information on xy;
-
Assembles data on xy;
-
Organizes and updates project/programme documentation, the filing systems and the project/programme library.
3. Implementation of project activities:
The junior advisor:
-
Acts as a minute taker during project meetings;
-
Moderates team meetings in connection with xy.
4. General obligations:
The junior advisor:
-
Is familiar with GIZ planning, implementation and reporting procedures and their changes;
-
Is familiar with other programme components and GIZ-assisted measures, concepts and status of implementation and knows the corresponding experts and staff;
-
Represents the interest of the GIZ-assisted measure and always acts on its behalf;
-
Carries out important tasks for the project/programme, even if these are not explicitly cited in the job description.
5. Other duties/additional tasks:
The junior advisor:

Assists other experts, if necessary as translator
-
Performs other duties and tasks at the request of management.
C. Required qualifications, competences and experience
Qualifications:
-
University degree in an area that is related to the project/programme objectives
Professional experience:
-
Initial experience (internship or similar) in this area
Other knowledge, additional competences:
-
Good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office, Access or another database programme)
-
Good knowledge of the European language widely used in the country, Arabic, ideally a knowledge of German
-
Experience of project management and experience in an area related to the project’s/programme’s requirements is desirable
-
Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management.
