UPO Background:
UPO is Sudanese national organization, which has been established in 2009, and working since 2010. UPO seeks to build peace in Sudan through conflict mitigation and reconciliation, inspiring and furnishing the local communities with sufficient and life changing skills to capacitate and empower their living. We see a more peaceful and socio-economically and politically advanced Sudan. UPO Darfur program started in 2010 in response to the emergency needs of some 950,000 war-affected communities and host populations in most of the localities in North, South, East and Central Darfur States. In response to the humanitarian needs, The Organization has received more
than $US 12.5 million in the last five years and implemented over 120 projects across Darfur region, Gadaref and
Khartoum states, UPO's assistance reached more than 950,000 vulnerable war affect persons in over 89rural communities and IDPs camps in Darfur states and eastern Sudan.
Duties & Responsibilities:

Ensure full coherence and alignment with various UPO offices in implementing the communication strategy, and adapting it to prevailing circumstances while ensuring that is mainstreaming in Africa and the world.

Provide technical advice and support to team leaders and other staff in planning and developing relevant information and communications products.

Provide input to all major departmental documents, including strategies, donor reports and other technical documents, to ensure they are well written and clearly communicating the messages.

Support the project management activities, project concepts and resource mobilization tools, ensuring goal-oriented project design. Also, identify and implement public relations and provide support for advocacy, monitoring and evaluation.

Be responsible for the compilation and finalization of the narrative annual report. Oversee the design and editorial content of the website and intranet, ensuring that content are regularly updated and promoted.

Participate in resource mobilization activities by developing awareness materials and ensuring that the organizational websites remain relevant.

Provide support and training in communication for the staff working at various UPO offices, during the annual staff meetings and staff retreats.

Initiate and implement communication activities in UPO yearly plan.

Link UPO’ advocacy campaigns to other regional and international campaigns, and keep UPO members, networks and partners informed on UPO’ various activities. Draft press releases, statements, news summaries and ensure print and electronic media coverage for the events.

Monitor international and regional media, and regularly update UPO staff of any media coverage relevant to their work.

Proactively identify media opportunities and, in close liaison with UPO partners, plan and implement media events including press releases, report launches and press conferences.

Organize regular and ad-hoc briefings, public information events and press conferences.

Develop strategies for partnerships and maintain databases of partners and supporters in the field of information and communication media.

Assist in the implementation of UPO seminars, workshops as well as internal board meetings and general assemblies and disseminate information on these activities.

Assist the Executive Director, the Programme Director and UPO staff with other related tasks as required.

Update and maintain the respective sections of the UPO web site and develop new sections as appropriate, ensuring conformity with corporate identity and the Standard Web Quality Assurance checklist, and other requirements.

Analyze and select on a daily basis the most relevant Humanitarian news/updates by countries/regions and subjects for each of the region/country . Download the selected news to be shared with the director and summarizing the most relevant aspects; update the highlight section and events, summits, seminars and publications of interest.

Based on the Project’s communications strategy, prepare and implement a communications plan outlining the concrete actions to be taken and the results to be achieved to enhance project visibility, increase its impact with a view to continuously improving UPO’s online outreach.

Prepare monthly alert message to announce the monthly updating of the web; edit and adapt file formats of photographs for web and social media use; adapt video and multimedia files to the required formats and upload to YouTube, when requested;

Identify and liaise with program officers; monitor and edit the provider entry on UPO website.

Develop monthly bulletins ,annually communication materials such as leaflets , staff ID, banners and other communication materials.

Perform any other job assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Post graduate in communications, journalism or any other relevant subject with 5 years of work experience, of graduate with 10 years work experience.

Extensive experience of working on communications at a senior management level.

Experience of developing and leading the implementation of crossorganisational communications and advocacy strategies.

Experience of managing campaigning and advocacy related work.

Experience of maximising the use of the media to build the profile of the organisation including new media.

Experience of brand development and management.
-
Ability to set clear priorities and secure results within tight deadlines.

Ability to work in public fora being able to influence key stakeholders.

Excellent writing skills.

Ability to work and communicate effectively across cultures.

Fluency in both languages Arabic and English.

Commitment to humanitarian principles and action, along with the aims and objectives of UPO.

Well developed interpersonal and team skills and proven ability to be flexible in demanding situations.

Computer skills in MS-Word, Excel, Power-point, access, internet, email, PowerPoint, publisher, Photoshop, any other relevant software.
