On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union (EU), GIZ started implementing a project in Kassala and Gedaref. The project aims at improving the livelihoods of the local population and refugees alike in two areas of intervention:
1) Supporting the government and the private sector in improving the quality and availability of market-oriented vocational training for young women and men.
2) Supporting small industry unions in providing business development services (BDS) for employment-oriented growth of small and medium-sized enterprises.

The GIZ Office in Gedaref is looking for a qualified person to fill the following position: Technical Advisor for vocational training and entrepreneurship promotion for women will be stationed in Gedaref with regular duty trips to other States in Sudan, in particular Kassala, if required.

The advisor is reporting to the Senior Technical Advisor and is responsible for the implementation of demand-oriented vocational and entrepreneurship training to women. The activities are being implemented in Gedaref and Kassala states.
 
As a technical advisor for vocational training and entrepreneurship promotion for women, you are responsible for:

  • Providing professional advisory services to women in the area of vocational training, basic qualification and entrepreneurship.
  • Building up capacities of women that are already active in a local business or are willing to develop and upgrade in vocational trades (e.g. electricity, construction, plumbing, restaurant management and others).
  • Cooperating with and strengthening capacities of project partners such as the women section of the craft unions, women’s unions and micro-finance institutions to effectively and independently implement demand-oriented trainings to women.
  • Enabling women to increase the competitiveness and profitability of their businesses.
  • Providing professional advisory services, coaching and training in the sector of entrepreneurship promotion and non-financial services.
  • Build up partnerships and networks for women employment in the private sector.
  • Supporting project planning and the conceptual development including preparation, organisation and facilitation of planning exercises and their implementation, management, monitoring, evaluation, communication and documentation.

Specifically, your tasks comprise:

  • Develop demand driven skills trainings to women and ensure the quality standards of trainings.
  • Provide with respective partners in Gedaref and Kassala tailor made business development services to women.
  • Support relevant stakeholders in the creation of employment opportunities for women in Gedaref an Kassala.
  • Analysing lessons learnt and compiling best practices for project implementation.
  • Developing ready-to-use strategies, innovative initiatives and technical concepts, including guidelines, manuals and procedures.
  • Conducting cultural and linguistic translation (oral and written Arabic and English).
  • Collect and review training manuals and curricula for the mentioned vocational  trades in cooperation with the other technical advisor for vocational training.
  • Drafting reports, articles and other written documents in English and Arabic.

Other duties/additional tasks:

  • Performs other duties and tasks at the request of management.

Qualifications, competences and experience comprehend:

  • Diploma in vocational training or engineering or academic degree (B.A. or Master) in the areas of business economics, development studies or similar fields;
  • Extensive knowledge of the context of women working in vocational or handicraft trades in Eastern Sudan and/or practical experience in establishing and developing an artisan workshop;
  • Knowledge and experience in entrepreneurship promotion, specifically in the handicraft sector;
  • Business and results orientation;
  • Experience in working within international teams;
  • Very good working knowledge of ITC technologies and computer applications (e.g. MS Office);
  • Proven experience in gender equality/women’s empowerment and inclusion of people with social disparities;
  • Excellent English and Arabic communication skills, both verbal and in writing.
