Background:
International Medical Corps (IMC) has been operational in Darfur since 2004 through the support of the different donors, government counterparts and the population. US Agency for International Development’s Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) remains as the major donor up until now. In 2013/14, under OFDA funding, IMC supported 11 health facilities with primary health care and nutrition services and one facility with essential medicines, reaching more than 350,000 persons. In 2014/15, IMC has expanded provision of support to health care, WASH and nutrition services in 23 health facilities and their catchment areas in South, Central and West Darfur. The project is expected to contribute to reduction of morbidity and mortality of children under 5, pregnant and lactating mothers. The programs have adopted an integrated emergency and rehabilitation approach to prevent and treat malnutrition and improve health care service delivery. IMC plans to understand in more depth and breadth the underlying factors and causes of health, nutrition and wash problems in Jebel Marra Central Darfur.
