Water & Habitat Engineer 1

 Background:

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), an impartial, neutral and independent organisation striving to protect and assist victims of armed conflict and internal violence, has been working in Sudan since 1978. The ICRC is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person for the position of Water & Habitat Engineer 1 for its delegation in Khartoum.

Purpose:

​Water & Habitat Engineer 1 plans, designs and implements engineering projects within the scope of the ICRC’s water and habitat assistance objectives with supervision and coaching from their hierarchical superior. S/he monitors on-site works, carries out needs assessments and surveys, and plans new projects. S/he has a close working relationship with external stakeholders related to their projects



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Develops project documents (drawings, bills of quantities, contracts, etc.) for engineering projects using approved formats.
  • Monitors project implementation for compliance with project documents, ICRC standards, and local building code/standards and ensures corrective action is taken if necessary.
  • Carries out and analyses needs assessments and surveys and shares analyses with WatHab supervisors/delegates
  • Prepares reports on project implementation/site progress, according to the frequency set by the hierarchy and or/consolidates site reports of staff under his/her responsibility.
  • Provides feedback to supervisors on stakeholder issues, security and site progress
  • Evaluates project implementation and analyses data within the framework of results-based management.
  • Develops the necessary networking with relevant stakeholders and monitors security issues related to project sites and advises supervisors where necessary

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor Degree, some college coursework completed, an Associate Degree or equivalent higher education degree in water supply, sanitation, construction, engineering or any related technical field
  • Additional vocational training in water supply, sanitation, construction, engineering or any related technical field
  • 3-5 years of experience in water supply, sanitation, construction, engineering or similar technical position.
  • Fluent in English and Arabic.
  • Very good level in computer skills
  • Familiarity with the standard norms and rules in construction, local techniques and requirements for construction
  • Driving license, succeeded in ICRC driving test
  • Experience in assessing, surveying, calculating and preparing estimates and technical drawings of buildings
  • Very good analytical skills
  • Familiar with the geographical responsibilities of the Sub delegations or offices
  • Proficient with drawing software skills in construction and hydraulics engineering
  • Proficient in use of AUTOCAD and MS project-management suite or equivalent
  • Experience managing 1-3 technical support staff.
