 Background:

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), an impartial, neutral and independent organisation striving to protect and assist the victims of war and internal violence, has been working in Sudan since 1978. The ICRC is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person for the following position in Khartoum: Field Officer II (Physiotherapist 1)

 

Purpose:

Physiotherapist 1 is responsible for implementing all physiotherapy-related activities from the acute to the early rehabilitation stage, fulfilling various roles to lead in the promotion, improvement, and maintenance of people’s mobility, health and well-being. S/He assesses and provides services to patients in need of physiotherapy within an ICRC-run or supported physical rehabilitation centre during emergency and non-emergency situations, and provides technical support to the physiotherapists working in this structures.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Ensures the continuum of care by referring individuals in need of vocational/occupational rehabilitation after their discharge to the appropriate structure.
  • Is responsible for implementing ICRC physiotherapy standards in collaboration with the physiotherapy team and the respective partner.
  • Promotes best practice in coordination with the  interdisciplinary team (P&Os, doctors, social work…) and partners
  • Sets priorities and manages the timely provision of physiotherapy services within an interdisciplinary approach.
  • Adjusts his/her activity based on the results of ongoing monitoring and evaluation processes as well as on the project priorities.
  • Develops professional relationships; advocates health promotion activities and scholarly practice, so that individuals/patients benefit to the utmost from ongoing learning.
  • Organises and provides short PT formal training and on-the-job training.
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to local PT staff in the clinical areas
  • Provide comprehensive written reports regarding conducted activities and field visits
  • When needed to Translates written documents and verbal conversations from Arabic to English and vice versa.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in physiotherapy full-time study, with a valid license to practice in the country of residence.
  • Minimum 2 years of postgraduate experience and up-to-date knowledge.
  • Experience in prosthetics/orthotics rehabilitation and/or clubfoot treatment with Ponseti protocol is an asset.
  • Additional relevant degrees (e.g. public health, hospital acute techniques) are an asset.
  • Where the necessary facilities exist, must be registered in his/her home country and meet professional continuing education requisites.
  • Experience with the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and/or in multicultural environments or low-resource settings are strong assets.
  • Fluent command of Arabic language as well as English
  • Expert level in computer skills
  • Ability to travel within Sudan and overnight in the field (1 – 7 days)
