Field of activity:
On behalf of the European Union and the German Government, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is closely supporting the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in facilitating the implementation of the IGAD Drought Disaster Resilience and Sustainability Initiative (IDDRSI). GIZ is supporting IGAD in developing the required policies and projects that would respond to the needs of pastoral communities living in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) with a particular focus on cross-border areas. This puts IDDRSI at the heart of drought resilience, and makes it the appropriate vehicle for addressing some of the root causes of displacement and irregular migration within and outside the region. Under this initiative, a series of workshop meetings, cross border dialogues, steering committee gatherings, consultative meetings between IGAD, member states, cross border communities, local authorities, development partners constitute a large part of the IGAD coordination work. It is within this context that GIZ is seeking to hire a Regional Advisor for Event Management to support IGAD in the implementation of different gathering functions.

For our operations in IGAD Secretariat, we are looking for a Position: Regional Advisor – Event Management (m/f) with a special focus on planning, coordinating and implementing regional multi-stakeholder dialogues and policy events (Technical Assistance to the “Strengthening the ability of IGAD to promote resilience in the Horn of Africa ").
Tasks:
The EU funded project strengthening the ability of IGAD to promote resilience in the Horn of Africa is complementary to the ongoing German government funded project strengthening the Capacity of IGAD towards enhanced Drought Resilience in the Horn of Africa (SCIDA II) and aiming as well at supporting and strengthening IGAD’s institutional capacity to coordinate the implementation of IDDRSI. The Regional Advisor will work as a regional event manager and will be advising and supporting the IGAD-team in the preparation, implementation and follow up of the IDDRSI regional events as per the agenda established by the IDDRSI steering committee and annual work plan of IGAD. The Regional Advisor will be reporting to an agreed upon mechanism which can include the GIZ-Principle Advisor as well as identified IGAD partners such as the IGAD Planning and Coordination Section (PCS) and/or the Platform Coordination Unit (PCU).
According to the Strengthening the ability of IGAD to promote resilience in the Horn of Africa project, the expected regional IDDRSI events are generally categorized into:

Assignment period:
The intended start date is September 2017. The period of implementation of the contract will be 24 months from this date with possible extension of up to 12 months.
