Background: Organizational Context:The Health/ Nutrition Assciate will be reporting to the Head of field Offcie and the primary role is to assist the UNHCR in overseeing the refugee health and nutrition programme in White Nile. He / she should receive guide from Health staff and may receive indirect guidance from other sections and units relevant to the country programme. S/he is expected to stay abreast of the challenges to refugees’ health care posed to the region by the political context, the UN and humanitarian reform and institutional developments. The incumbent is expected to have contacts within the organization , as well as with partners and other stakeholders to collect information and implement administrative requirements at state level. |

Duties and responsibilities: Accountability The Health/Nutrition Associate will be reporting to the Head of field Office and the primary role is to assist the UNHCR in overseeing the refugee health and nutrition programme in White Nile. He / she should receive guide from Health staff and may receive indirect guidance from other sections and units relevant to the country programme. S/he is expected to stay abreast of the challenges to refugees’ health care posed to the region by the political context, the UN and humanitarian reform and institutional developments. The incumbent is expected to have contacts within the organization, as well as with partners and other stakeholders to collect information and implement administrative requirements at state level. Responsibility Monitor and evaluate implementation of health programmes in the field, according to work plans co-developed with implementing partners. • Oversee the implementation of the Health Information System from the data collection phase at the camp level up to the IP level and examine quality of data collected, together with partners and health actors. • Ascertain that the following Health Programmes are implemented by IP health workers according to national guidelines by health implementing partners in each refugee health facility: - Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI). - Tuberculosis prevention and control. - Malaria prevention and control. - Reproductive Health (including Family Planning) & HIV / AIDS. - Mental Health Care. - Medical Referral Care. - Rational Drug Utilization. • Monitor consumption of essential medicines at the camp level and distribution from central drug pipelines when possible by comparing inventory reports and consumption reports with regular medicine stock verification. • Participate in assessment of training needs of GO and NGO implementing partner staff and ensure that individual health staff undergo capacity development activities relevant to their posts / function. • Implement interventions with refugee / host community volunteers utilizing participatory approaches. • Assist UNHCR Nutritionist in the conduct of the annual nutrition survey and monitor implementation of the nutrition programme, especially in the in-patient stabilization centers. • Collaborate with UNHCR / MOH / IP Engineers on the implementation of health infrastructure in the camps or host community areas. • Perform other public health duties as required. Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required: Essential Minimum Qualifications and Experience A degree/training in Medicine, Public Health, Nursery or related field is required. At least two years progressively responsible professional work experience in programme planning and management in Health and nutrition field in Sudan, with emphasis on strategic planning. • Knowledge of the latest developments in community based health, in child survival and development including safe motherhood and neonatal care. • Proven ability to conceptualize, plan and manage health programs, as well as to impact knowledge and teach skills. • Analytical, communication and advocacy skills • Possesses up to date knowledge of medical diagnostic and treatment modalities available in Sudan. • Good report writing skills. • Prior relevant experience with UNHCR, other UN agencies or NGOs. • Prior experience working in IDP or refugee operations. • Fluency in English and Arabic languages. Desirable Qualifications & Competencies Computer skills: Fully proficient computer skills and use of relevant software and other applications, e.g. word processing, Excel, epidemiological programme, etc. Language skills: Fluency in oral and written English required, knowledge of Arab language is an asset. Others: - Teamwork, Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
