The GIZ Office in Khartoum is looking for a qualified person to fill the following position:

Technical Advisor for Business Development Services to artisan workshops for the project “Strengthening the Capacities for Reconstruction in Darfur”

The advisor is reporting to the Technical advisor of the Darfur project.

 

Context:

Employment-oriented private sector development is an important factor contributing to a peaceful society. The project’s aim is to create more sustainable employment opportunities for qualified people in Darfur. Demand-oriented vocational and entrepreneurship training conveys technical skills and know-how to young people on how to start a business. Artisan workshops that provide vocational training are enabled to expand. Business development services support selected enterprises to compete on the local market, to increase their revenue and, ultimately, to offer new employment.

The technical advisor for entrepreneurship promotion supports the area of intervention “Private sector development and employment promotion”. He/She is responsible for the implementation of activities that support state craftsmen unions and micro finance institutions in their provision of business development services to artisan workshops, especially those offering vocational training to the youth. The activities are being implemented in the capitals of North and West Darfur.

 

As a technical advisor for entrepreneurship promotion, you are responsible for

  • Building up capacities of local business development service (BDS) providers, in particular crafts unions and micro-finance institutions, to effectively and independently implement business advisory services and training for existing artisan workshops and start-ups.
  • Enabling supported master craftsmen/entrepreneurs to increase the competitiveness and profitability of existing artisan workshops thus creating additional employment.
  • Supporting craftsmen in their desire to build up or expand their businesses;
  • Providing professional advisory services, coaching and training in the sector of entrepreneurship promotion and non-financial services.
  • Build up partnerships and networks with the private sector.

 

Specifically, your tasks comprise

  • Supporting project planning and the conceptual development including preparation, organisation and facilitation of planning exercises and their implementation, management, monitoring, evaluation, communication and documentation.
  • Analysing lessons learnt and compiling best practices for project implementation.
  • Developing ready-to-use strategies, innovative initiatives and technical concepts, including guidelines, manuals and procedures.
  • Conducting cultural and linguistic translation (oral and written Arabic and English).
  • Drafting reports, articles and other written documents in English and Arabic.
  • Performing other duties and tasks at the request of management.

 

Your qualifications, competences and experience comprehend

  • Academic degree (B.A. or Master) in the areas of business economics or similar fields.
  • Extensive knowledge of the private sector in Sudan/Darfur and practical experience in  entrepreneurship promotion, preferably in the handcraft sector.
  • Practical experience in creating comprehensive models for private sector development, particularly for micro and small artisan workshops.
  • Business and results orientation.
  • Experience with artisan workshops providing vocational training.
  • Experience in working within international teams.
  • At least 3 years of experience in the field of entrepreneurship promotion and non-financial business development services.
  • Very good working knowledge of ITC technologies and computer applications (e.g. MS Office).
  • Excellent English and Arabic communication skills, both verbal and in writing.
