|Job Title:||Legal and External Affairs|

Objective of Job:
· To act as business partner for legal and external affairs, responsible for successful implementation of strategies and objectives; while giving due regard to full compliance with local laws as well as Group policies and processes to mitigate legal and reputational risk to the business. To be well informed of the current legal and operating environment, and will be responsible for internal and external communication, as well as engagement with external stakeholders of the company.
|Duties and responsibilities:
The LEX Manager will need to have the following Principal Accountabilities.
§ Understand Company vision and values and incorporate them into the work product.
§ Carry out corporate secretarial duties to ensure corporate governance is robust and in line with Group policies.
§ Ensure all licenses and permits needed for the business are in place and are renewed as appropriate.
§ Implement relevant Group legal policies and processes.
§ Draft, negotiate and conclude letters, memoranda, agreements, press releases and/or other documents relating to the business to optimize and protect the interests of the business and the Group.
§ Ensure that all marketing activities undertaken by the business are compliant with both the relevant laws and regulations and the Group’s standards to safeguard the Group’s reputation as a responsible organization.
§ Coordinate and support external counsel handling litigation that may arise to manage legal, financial, reputational and partner relationship consequences.
§ Coordinate and support on security requirements including business continuity plans and other security policies.
§ Implement and achieve legal strategic plans and objectives in accordance with legal imperative and other management initiatives.
§ Actively proffer ideas, proposals and initiatives for the continuous use of legal tools for competitive advantage and resolution of business challenges.
§ Identify and take steps in conjunction with management to minimize commercial risk.
§ Keep abreast of developments in the law and the regulatory environment, to advise functions of the legal impact when appropriate, and to engage with the relevant external stakeholders to convey the Company/Group position and reach favorable results for the business as appropriate.

§ Constantly identify and maintain high quality political and public affairs connections
§ Represent the company on regulatory issues, ensuring and coordinating the involvement of expertise from other functions as necessary.
3) Management Results: -
§ To drive and manage the continuous development of Company’s regulatory engagement with a view to promoting tobacco regulation which balances the interests of consumers with the interests of society.
§ Efficiently manage budget to achieve assigned targets within the financial agreed scope.
4) Relationship Results:
§ Manage the effective evaluation of company reputation in Sudan
5) Innovation Results
§ Drive a culture of innovation within LEX that encourages networking and transfer of best practise locally and globally both within and external to Company so to ensure continuous improvement of the function and Company.
Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
§ University Degree/post graduate
§ 5 years’ experience in a substantial corporate affairs management / legal affairs role in a comparable commercial/FMCG organization, or legal cabinet, with a proven track record
§ Project management skills
§ Ability to take both a strategic and tactical view of the business
§ Influencing /negotiation skills in developing cross functional and external relationships
§ Deep cross functional appreciation of the business – marketing, operations, LEX, finance
§ Deep understanding of the tobacco industry and its political, social and economic environment
§ Active interest in business, tobacco and tobacco control issues, aptitude for absorbing information and intuitive application to Company.
§ Cultural awareness and appreciation of the local business and regulatory environment
§ Ability to apply knowledge of tobacco control to the development of the business
§ Creativity – finding new angles to address regulatory challenges
Managerial & Interpersonal Skills
§ Multi-country issues management experience, as well as direct experience in developing partnerships, strategic alliances and associations, whilst demonstrating top level representational experience (media, NGOs, NMAs) at a national level
§ Influencing skills, strategic thinking and rational decision making, leading & managing change demonstrated at Senior Management level.
§ People recruitment, development and motivation skills.
