Background:
Organizational Context
he Senior Field Assistant (Protection) may liaise with local officials and/or Implementing Partners (IPs) on routine subject matters under the direction of the supervisor.
|
|
Duties and responsibilities:
Accountability
-
UNHCR’s protection policies and standards are consistently and coherently applied.
-
The specific needs and protection issues of persons of concern are identified in a timely manner.
Responsibility
-
Collect data and other information relevant to UNHCR field/protection activities and prepare reports as required.
-
Follow up on a regular basis, the overall situation in refugee settlements and other areas where persons of concern have been accommodated.

In co-ordination with the local authorities, monitor the implementation of UNHCR projects and assist local implementing partners in matters pertaining to the well-being of persons of concern.

Conduct basic interviews with asylum-seekers prior to determination interviews and provide basic interview notes to supervisor.

Attend to asylum-seekers and refugees’ queries and take further action where necessary.

Maintain relevant statistical records and files.
-
Assist in completion of relevant formalities and obtaining relevant documents, such as travel documents, transit visas/exit visas or other documents, as required.

May be required to assist with reception, registration and voluntary repatriation activities within the country operation.

Act as interpreter in exchange of routine information, contribute to related liaison activities and respond directly to routine queries.

Perform other relevant duties as required
Authority

Liaise with local authorities, implementing partners and population of concern.

Direct incidents and problems to the supervisor when they cannot be resolved at their level.

Undertake field missions for monitoring of projects or to accompany authorized personnel on field travel.

Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
Essential Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Completion of Secondary education or equivalent technical school with certificate/training in Business
-
Administration, Social Science, International Law or related field.
-
Minimum of 5 years of job experience relevant to the function.

Computer skills (MS office and People Soft applications).
-
Fluency in English and working knowledge of another relevant UN language or local language.
Desirable Qualifications & Competencies
-
Completion of UNHCR learning programmes or specific training relevant to functions of the position.

Knowledge of another relevant UN or local languages.
