 Background:

IMCI is the key strategy developed by world health organization and UNICEF to reduce under-five mortality and morbidity.  Sudan has adopted and implemented this strategy at early phase between 1996-99  the serviceinclude prevention and promotion elements beside the management of sick child.this service package is  well supported by drug supply and continuous training and supervision.

Children under 5 years of age are one of most vulnerable groups affected by malaria. There were an estimated 438 000 malaria deaths around the world in 2015, of which approximately 69% were in children under 5 years of age. The reported deaths due to malaria were only 1148 with more than 53% from Sudan

 

The prevalence of TB inSudan is estimated at 151 per 100.000   population according to who 2014 estimation with mortality of 21 per 100.000 population. Incidence of tuberculosis (per 100; 000 people) in Sudan was last measured at 94 in 2014, according to the world bank.

Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the top ten killers of children and infants worldwide. Globally, it is estimated that up to 140,000 children die of TB each year and over half a million are infected. Children with TB are less likely to be infectious than adults, which is why childhood TB has not been a priority within national healthcare programs. Young children are at particular risk of developing severe, often fatal or lifelong disabling forms of TB. If children are living with HIV they are even 20 to 30 times more likely to develop TB than children who are not infected with HIV.

Who recommend countries to establish childhood tuberculosis roadmap to address in plans, policies and strategies within established child health program?

Adaptation of training materials  and  updating needed as related to protocol updating for  Malaria has been done several times .The health providers targeted by IMCI training standard case management (SCM) or modified training course (MTC) are medical doctors medical assistants and nurses, who manage under five in the outpatient settings or the first level health facilities. Recently the program stated the strategy of home based Management by training of Community  Health Workers especially in the areas  not cover by other Health workers using  new, adapted and  tested training Material.

Assessment for child health gab in case management of malaria and tuberculosis is one of the top task needed for development ofnational plans, policies and guidelines for all level of service provision.

Purpose of the job: to assess the gaps in IMCI approach to improve the comprehensive management of children including treatment of Malaria and TB in children



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • To analyze and review  child health current guidelines, protocols and IMCI modules
  • To address the needed updates according to evidence based recommendations and guidelines
  • To address the gab in case management for malaria and TB in children
  • To conduct meetings with all stakeholders and policy makers

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Updated modules including management of TB and Malaria in children
  • Endorsement taskforce meeting

Remuneration and schedule of payment

Total budget is to be paid according to the following schedule:

  1. 50% upon submission of first progress report
  2. 50% upon submission of final report
