 Background:

UNESCO is seeking for a Programme Assistant.

Recuritment open to Internal and External candidates.
 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Under the authority of the Head of UNESCO Office and under the direct supervision of the National Officer for Education, the incumbent shall perform the following duties:

 

  • Deliver a range of office, financial and administrative activities in support of projects/programmes by retrieving pertinent information, assembling and collating information and contributing to the logistical and administrative preparation of events.
  • Assist in preparing a variety of administrative documentation using examples or templates; ensure follow-up.
  • Assist in the organization of meetings, events and workshops by booking venues, equipment and providing other related logistical support; provides administrative support during the event; collects minutes and decisions; initiates travel authorizations in conjunction with meetings, workshops, conferences or sessions; makes travel arrangements.
  • Receive, analyse, sort, register and distribute correspondence, documents and processes requests for reports; draft correspondence as well as emails/faxes; review, proofreads and edits out-going correspondence.
  • Monitor and assist the National Officers on the status of projects and their follow-ups.
  • Liaise with Headquarter services to obtain additional information/clarification.
  • Additional activities that may be required to ensure the success of the work team.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Secondary and/or vocational education.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ of professional experience in general administration, preferably in    projects management.
  • Good knowledge of UNESCO working environment; Technical knowledge of office applications (MS Word, Outlook, Excel, spreadsheets, presentations, SISTER, SAP.)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to draft correspondence and correct documents.
  • Good communication, organizational and coordination skills; tact, diplomacy.
  • Ability to operate fairly independently; to take initiative and work effectively in a team. Flexibility, adaptability and readiness to work under pressure.
  • Client-oriented and problem solving attitudes.
  • Good knowledge of English.

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Good background in Education.
  • Experience in an international organization in the field of project management;
  • Knowledge of UNESCO rules and practices, procedures, protocols, to carry out a variety of administrative tasks.
  • Good knowledge of  Arabic would be an asset
  • Knowledge of another official language of the United Nations (French) would be an asset.

BENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS

 

UNESCO salaries in Khartoum are paid in Sudanese Pounds, exempted from income tax. The annual remuneration for this post will start from SDG 53,020. Other benefits include: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance and pension plan.
