 Background:

Under the supervision of the Senior MHPSS Officer with support from Health Manager, the  Psychologist will help the Senior MHPSS Officer in supervising the implementation of project activities, particularly MHPSS component that will include building capacity of the community health workers and direct services for individuals with mental health problems providing community-based mechanisms for mobilization, awareness raising, on PSEA and GBV prevention and response among local healthcare providers & leaders. Conduct Psychiatric Outreaches for MHPSS services by early case finding and Provide Referrals to secondary care services when needed. 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

 

Responsibility: 

  • Ensure active, continuous disease surveillance, team orientation, quality management and leadership development, introducing systems and procedures to strengthen staff motivation and productivity. In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.
  • Makes weekly /monthly/quarterly report to line manager, to ensure implementation is done in line with project proposal.
  • The duties and responsibilities as set out above are not exhaustive and the role holder may be required to carry out additional duties within reasonableness of their level of skills and experience.
  • Carry out any duties assigned by line manager as needed and requested.
  • To support the HIV team in supporting HIV positive cases to ensure psychosocial support.

 

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Identification and registration of psychosocial needs of beneficiaries based on the vulnerability criteria based on standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Refer clients to other specialists or other institutions for further assistance, when necessary, in line with the available local referral pathways, to ensure effective and efficient case management process.
  • Participate in the creation of any material needed for counselling activities and maintain and update.
  • Keep files and statistics of daily activities and participate in team meetings to share experiences and discuss special cases with the supervisor respecting confidentiality.

 

QUALIFICATIONS 


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s in psychology, social sciences, or other related field. 
  • 1-3 years sectorial experience or relevant experience in social work, community development and working with children in Child Protection Programme preferable with humanitarian Organization.
  • 1 Year Experience with INGOS or UN.

 

SKILLS:

  • Very good written and spoken English and Arabic
  • Excellent technical understanding of child protection and community based approached.
  • Computer knowledge.
  • Self-confidence with positive attitude and teamwork.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Be able to prioritize tasks.
  • Able to operate in extremely harsh living and working environment.
  • Knowledge of primary health care/public health and clinical medicines is added advantage.
  • Good interpersonal and facilitation Skills/ ability to conduct and facilitate training.
